Negotiations with Enrique ongoing, Conte to get €30m pay-off if sacked

3 hours ago Sport (via www.ibtimes.co.uk)

Chelsea have already opened negotiations with former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique to replace Antonio Conte if they finally decide to sack the Italian boss before the end of the current season, according to Sport.

The Spanish publication says in its Wednesday (7 February) front cover that the Premier League champions have told the Spaniard he will be given a contract for the rest of the campaign and for a further two years to help build a new long-term project.

Sport says that Conte will be given two more games to turn around the Blues' fortunes against West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League on Monday (12 February) and Hull City in the FA Cup fifth round the following weekend (16 February), but defeat in either game could bring an end to the Italian's tenure at Stamford Bridge.

The former Juventus boss only signed a new deal at Chelsea in the summer and, according to the report, the Blues will need to pay him around €30m (£26.7m, $37m) in compensation if they decide to part ways with him before the end of the current season.

Sport say Chelsea want a long-term solution to help the Blues to secure a top four finish this term and then start a new long-term project in the summer.

Conte z not Chelsea's problem, the main problem z d mgt or CFC board. Chelsea needs to change their thinking towards transfer mkt., if not, the problem in d squad wl still persist. If u like sack conte & u wl loose ur top players come nxt season. No foundation at all...**** all d CFC board.

Antonio Conte Hints Key Man Could 'Miss the Rest of the Season' After Recent Back Injury
Toby Cudworth09 FEB 2018
  • 6 k

Under pressure Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has admitted he has no idea how much more action summer signing Alvaro Morata could miss, with the striker seemingly unable to shake off a recent back injury.

The Spanish striker has been ruled out of the Blues last five matches due to ongoing back pain, with Conte admitting the club's medical staff were baffled in how to treat him.

Speaking to reporters at Chelsea's Cobham training ground on Friday - ahead of Monday's clash with West Brom - Conte said: "Players like Morata, for us, are very important and have been missing for a long period of time. I don't know how long he will be out."

Speaking to the Evening Standard, he added: "We are struggling a lot to find a solution to solve the pain in his back. If you ask me whether he needs a day, a month or the rest of the season, I don't know. I don't know.

"For this reason, I'm a bit worried. You know very well the importance of the player."

His replacement up front could be new signing Olivier Giroud, who joined the Blues from London rivals Arsenal in a transfer deadline day merry-go round. The Frenchman could be in line to make his first start against West Brom, despite a shortage in match fitness.

He added: "Giroud has trained and will be in contention. We are talking a lot about bad results, but sometimes we forget we are facing a serious situation.

Conte has come under increasing pressure in recent weeks, with rumoured disagreements around the club's transfer policy interspersed with heavy Premier League defeats to Bournemouth and Watford.

Alvaro Morata hits back at fans who criticised him for dancing with his wife

an hour ago Metro

Antonio Conte claimed of Friday that the Spaniard could be out for a 'day, a month or the rest of the season'.
Alice Campello posted a video on Instagram on Sunday which showed Morata lifting and carrying her during a dance routine.

The striker, who joined Chelsea from Real Madrid for a club-record fee last summer, was criticised by fans for the video as he has missed the club's last four fixtures with a back problem.

But Morata now claims that the footage is old and has revealed that is available for Chelsea's clash against West Brom at Stamford Bridge on Monday evening.

Morata posted on Instagram: "It's [an] old video. I'm not injured, I'm OK for the game tomorrow. A lot of critics now... but no problem for me!"

Chelsea must start spending big again to compete - it is time for Roman Abramovich to show his heart is still in it

3 hours ago Mirror

The Blues have balanced their books in recent years but they need a lot of money to get back above City
If I could ask Roman Abramovich one question – beyond can you lend me a tenner – it would be: Is your heart still in Chelsea? Because it needs to be, if they are not to become a team content to be scrambling to get into the increasingly intense battle for a top-four place. And it needs to be, if they are to stand any chance of keeping Eden Hazard this summer.

That may sound dramatic, but look at where Chelsea are right now... and look at what it will take to get them back above Manchester City. Basically, a huge amount of Abramovich’s money.

They already have the smallest squad of any of the big-six clubs and, surprisingly for a team that won the title last season, they don’t have vast reserves of experience either, which has always been a Chelsea strongpoint. To compete with City and where Pep Guardiola will take them next season, they are going to need some big, big signings.

Conte is a top-class manager. I have always admired how quickly he knocked them into shape when he arrived at Stamford Bridge and how he got them playing as a unit. Yet, he knows how far away he is from competing with City... hence his complaints.

Chelsea – and Abramovich – are at a crossroads. He has pumped money into the club for a decade, sacking managers and winning trophies with equal frequency. If his heart isn’t in it, then they become a club content to challenge for a top-four place and one which will lose their top stars to Real Madrid and Barcelona. And to Manchester City, too. Just ask Arsenal.

AC Milan to end interest in Antonio Conte

4 hours ago Evening Standard

AC Milan handing Gennaro Gattuso a contract extension
Antonio Conte has been on the Serie A club's wish-list since last summer and was expected to be offered the post when he leaves Chelsea, which is likely to be at the end of the campaign at the latest.

AC Milan appointed Gattuso on an interim basis in November after they sacked Vincenzo Montella. His deal was only until the end of the season, which further increased talk that AC Milan had Conte in mind to take over on a permanent basis. AC Milan are now thinking about rewarding the former Italy midfielder with a two-year contract.

Antonio Conte's position as Chelsea coach has been in question since he won the title last May and grew frustrated with the board over their transfer dealings. But the Italian has increasingly come under pressure following the turn of the year as they have gone on a run of just two wins in 10 games.

Antonio Conte's Chelsea future: Is this the flaw in the club's model?

5 hours ago Adam Bate (Sky Sports)

For all the debate about Antonio Conte's Chelsea future, history suggests that the club will prosper regardless of the coach's identity. But does the speed at which things seem to be unravelling at Stamford Bridge highlight the flaw in Chelsea's model?
Four league titles in each of his last four full seasons shows that he knows what he is doing, but Chelsea have their model. History suggests it works. Сlub survived Jose Mourinho's meltdown to bounce back and win the title shows that change is Chelsea's weapon of choice. Constant renewal. It has been their way of cleansing the club and going again. Coaches come and go but the machine grinds on and supporters know the score. Conte's name was chanted at Watford just as Mourinho had departed as a hero.

And yet, this latest challenge feels problematic. The speed of the descent into crisis has been alarming. It's not quite been the collapse seen under Mourinho. Chelsea are fourth. But back-to-back three-goal defeats to Bournemouth and Watford told a tale - the first time that the club had lost consecutive games by such a margin in almost a quarter of a century.

Conte is a details man. His tactical work on the training ground is repetitive. Concentration on a match-day is paramount. There have still been the away wins over Tottenham and Atletico Madrid, while Manchester United were beaten at Stamford Bridge. But in low-key games, when players have not been quite so quick to close down, that is where problems have arisen.

At Roman Abramovich's Chelsea, job security is one of the few perks not included in one of football management's more lucrative contracts. The rules are different and for a long time, with the benefit of vast funds and a dressing room full of strong characters, it has worked for them. Maybe it can again. A shock win over Barcelona would soon change the mood.
