Pep Guardiola is hoping to end Man City's hodoo
against Liverpool at Anfield
Manchester City have beaten their rivals on their
own ground only once in the last 35 years – in
May 2003 – and Guardiola saw at first hand on
Boxing Day the strength of Jurgen Klopp’s title
chasers as they swept aside Stoke 4-1.
Tomorrow's game is one neither side can afford
to lose as they attempt to chase down leaders
Chelsea and Guardiola says he is well aware of
the threat posed by Klopp’s high pressing style
from their encounters in the Bundesliga when in
charge of Bayern Munich and Borussia
Dortmund.
Pep Guardiola said: “I don’t know what will
happen tomorrow but we have to equal their
intensity. Anfield will play a big role but what
happened in the past stays in the past.
Sergio Aguero will return against Liverpool after
serving his four-match ban
“I was lucky to play against Jurgen Klopp many
times in Germany and I think we know each
other quite well. I saw Liverpool this year many
times on television but it [Tuesday] was my day
off and I decided to see the game – and thank
you Liverpool for inviting me.”
"They are definitely title contenders. There are
six teams fighting for the title and for the first
four positions fighting for the Champions League.
It will be a good fight until the end of the
season."
Guardiola says Sergio Aguero is bristling to get
started again after a four-game suspension for
his reckless tackle on Chelsea's David Luiz
earlier this month.
John Stones will be fit to face Liverpool after
recovering from a knock against Hull
During his enforced absence, Guardiola allowed
the striker to return to his native Argentina to
see family and friends but despite his lack of
action he says he has looked sharp enough in
training to go straight back into the team
tomorrow.
He added: “He is ready. He came back good
from Argentina, finally back after foru games
banned – and seven in total this season. We are
happy he is back.”
Another boost for City is that John Stones – who
limped off against Hull on Boxing Day with a
knee injury - is fit to return against Liverpool .
But Leroy Sane is out along with long-term
absentees Ilkay Gundogan and Vincent Kompany.

BXZ: RUMOURS: Chelsea open talks with Arturo Vidal

Antonio Conte is in line for a reunion with Arturo Vidal after Chelsea opened talks to bring the Chilean to Stamford Bridge, according to English media.

Now at Bayern Munich, Vidal signed for Conte's Juventus from Udinese in 2011 and lifted four Scudetti before moving to Bavaria.

And the newspaper asserts that Conte, now in charge at Stamford Bridge, met with the midfielder and his agents on Boxing Day with a view to a transfer during the January window.
