Diego Costa faces three-match ban after Chelsea striker is charged by FA for clash with Arsenal's Laurent Koscielny


Diego Costa clashed with Arsenal defenders Gabriel and Laurent Koscielny
Gabriel was sent off before Arsenal were beaten at Stamford Bridge
Costa escaped with just a yellow card in the London derby
But he has now been charged for his tussle with Frenchman Koscielny
Gabriel has been charged for taking too long to leave the field
And both clubs have been charged with failing to control their players
Diego Costa is facing a three-match ban for grappling with Laurent Koscielny during Chelsea's win over Arsenal on Saturday.

The striker appeared to claw at the Frenchman's face as they battled for the ball at Stamford Bridge.

The incident went unpunished but the Football Association have now charged the Spain international retrospectively with violent conduct.

Supporters take action to prevent referee from officiating a future Arsenal game after Saturday's controversial defeat to Chelsea

Arsenal fans have worked quickly to take their own action against Mike Dean after the referee failed to send off Diego Costa on Saturday.

A petition, set up by disgruntled Gooners to ensure that Mike Dean never officiates an another Arsenal game, has nearly received 50,000 signatures.

Mike Dean neglected to book the Chelsea striker, despite a series of on-the-field run-ins with a series of Arsenal players - including Laurent Koscielny, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Gabriel Paulista.



Entitled 'Prevent Arsenal from refereeing another Arsenal game', the petition calls for an 'inquiry into his ability to referee Arsenal games'.

"Major incidents have occurred in recent and past games that show he is inept at refereeing at this level now", the petition reads.


Mike Dean sent off two Arsenal players, including Santi Cazorla

"The recent events at Chelsea V Arsenal highlight this where two Arsenal players were dismissed while Diego Costa the opposition player made 4 straight red card incidents and was show one yellow card only", it continues.

The petition description also cites a video clip which allegedly shows Dean celebrating a Tottenham goal in a game against Arsenal at the Emirates.



Diego Costa could yet face punishment from the FA for his behaviour from Saturday's victory over the Gunners at Stamford Bridge. Arsene Wenger has appealed to the official to admit his mistakes and back FA punishment against the 26-year old.

I understand that you have to open the debate but I think the media needs to take more responsibility with its role over this. Depicting cheating as 'antics' and 'playing on the edge' merely legitimises it where there should be a strong and uniform denouncement from the press and a call for the FA to take a stronger stance. Behaviour like that not only ruins good football matches but also brings the game into disrepute and the officials need support from all sides (FA, press, fans) to stamp this sort of thing out. The longer you indulge the idea that Diego Costa's behaviour is in any way acceptable, the more our game will suffer.
