Jose Mourinho has used Chelsea’s end of season awards dinner to deliver a tongue-in-cheek speech mocking the critics of his side’s style of play and to poke fun at his Premier League rivals.
The
Blues won the Premier League title with three matches to spare and the Portuguese has previously admitted he opted for more of a substance over style approach as his side homed in on the trophy
On Tuesday night he told a story about three other teams whose kits bore something of a resemblance to that of Manchester United's, Manchester City's and Arsenal's.
Before that, however, he fired a shot at those who criticised his side, before addressing his players.
Mourinho said: "I don't think my players got the respect that they deserve after what they did from day one till the last day.
"And these are words that I really feel, serious words.

Following the speech, Mourinho added: "The end of the story is just simple. We have to start believing that they learned the lesson and next season will be much, much more difficult for us. We have to be ready for that."
Mourinho's story was accompanied by graphics at the end of season dinner, where players celebrated a season in which they won the Premier League title and Capital One Cup.
"This is a football pitch with two goals, one ball, but there is one team that would like to play without goals," he said, of the plain red-shirted team, or Manchester United.
"That team plays really well and the ball goes and goes and goes and the quality of the ball possession is really beautiful, but no goals.
"And they ask the international board of FIFA to play like this, but they were told that it was not possible, that the bigger percentage of ball possession doesn't win matches and they were not champions.
Mourinho then moved on to Manchester City, who finished eight points behind Chelsea in second.

He said: "After that there was another team (wearing sky blue shirts) that were less radical and they asked to play only with one goal.
"They were fantastic and they scored a lot of goals and the goals were coming from every position and they score and they score and they score, but they never conceded goals, because no goal.
“Again, the international board told them 'I'm sorry, you can't be champions because football is with two goals'.

Speaking of Arsenal, Mourinho said: "The third team (red shirts, white sleeves) was almost there, because they wanted to play with two goals.
"They were scoring some, they were also conceding some. They were fantastic. They scored really beautiful goals, they concede some goals too and they were almost there.
"But they asked the international board to play only between January and April. And they told 'no chance, no chance'.
"You have to play between August and May, so they couldn't be champions.”
Lastly, of his own Chelsea side, Mourinho said: “Finally come another team (blue shirts). They wanted to play with the normal rules and they know that to win matches they had to score one more goal than the opponent.
"How can you do this? By scoring a lot of goals or not conceding and scoring one.

"And they did it both ways. Scoring a lot, conceding some. Scoring one goal and conceding no goals.
"That was the option and lots of goals were conceding, they played from August till May and sometimes they brought the bus.”

Hazard wants to emulate Frank Lampard, on and off the pitch

fter leading Chelsea to the 2014/15 Premier League season, there was little doubt left in anyone's mind that Eden Hazard was the best player in the league. Some though that his development would have him seeking a high profile move to Real Madrid (and a reunion with The Interim One), but after reading his most recent comments, it's hard to come away believing Hazard would be the sort to leave Chelsea as long as things continue to go well.

Hazard spoke about the need to keep his private life private, as well as sharing quite a bit of praise about Chelsea's all-time leading scorer, Frank Lampard:

"I’m not the type of player to look for photo opportunities and things like that. It’s very important to keep your life private and that’s what I have always tried to do. I don’t like going out, I feel happier at home. It’s a life choice. Obviously I go out occasionally for a meal with my friends, but if you have everything you want at home, why go looking elsewhere?"

"If people focus on me more now after what has happened this season, I will just stay at home even more and there will be even less to say about me. I want everyone to have a good image of me, not just the Chelsea fans, everyone throughout the football world. In a similar style to how Frank Lampard is viewed. He is respected by everyone, I want that and to have a good clean image."

"You can’t help but learn from having players like Frank around you when you’re training and playing alongside him every day. I remember my very first training session with the club and we had a break and Frank said: ‘Can I get you some water, do you want a drink?’ It was incredible. "As the new guy I felt like I should have been the one to be getting Frank, who has won so many trophies, water. But that is what he was like."

"Having the chance to spend two seasons alongside him, you just learn what an exemplary player and professional he is. You got the feeling that this was a player respected by everybody and everywhere — not just in the club but outside too."

"I watched how hard Frank was working at training despite having won so much already (11 major trophies with Chelsea in all) and knew I had to do the same. As a youngster you can’t help but be inspired by people like Frank. He sustained his career at the highest level till the age of 36 and that is not for any reason."

"He worked hard at his game physically and technically. I don’t know if I will get to play until that age, I certainly want to. But I know I will have to work damn hard to do that."

It's hard to read comments like those, and feel anything but fond memories about players like Lampard, John Terry, and the soon-to-be-departed pair of Petr Cech and Didier Drogba. While age catches up to everyone eventually, that group has been sensational for the Blues, not only on the pitch, but in helping to groom their eventual replacements.

Here's hoping that eventually, we'll be hearing about another fantastic young player praising Hazard's influence on him at Chelsea.

Premier League End of Season Awards: The good, the bad, the ugly

The Good

Best Player: Eden Hazard

This one isn't hard.

Chelsea didn't always make for the most enjoyable viewing, as is customary for a Jose Mourinho-led team, but Eden Hazard did. The little Belgian wizard, who scored 14 goals and added nine assists during his most consistent campaign yet in England, dazzled with his dizzying array of dribbling and passing skills, shouldering the attacking burden for the Blues throughout the campaign.

It's no coincidence that the 24-year-old captured both the PFA and Football Writers' Player of the Year awards.

Best Signing: Diego Costa, Chelsea - reported £32 million from Atletico Madrid

Alexis Sanchez and teammate Cesc Fabregas were very much in the running for this, but at the end of the day, it's impossible to ignore the fact that Chelsea were desperately screaming out for a striker last season as Fernando Torres, Demba Ba, and Samuel Eto'o toiled away up front.

Enter villain extraordinaire: Diego Costa.

His antics on the pitch are infuriating, but the snarling battering ram of a striker has more than justified his price tag by smashing home 20 goals in only 26 matches. The Blues needed a striker. They signed a striker. They won the Premier League. It's not that simple, but it's close.

Best match: Leicester City 5, Manchester United 3

Jaw-dropping. Astounding. Unbelievable. Many an adjective were used to describe Leicester City's comeback victory over United in September, which saw the Foxes overturn a 3-1 deficit in the second half by scoring four unanswered goals in 21 minutes.

As much as it was an adjective-inducing contest, it was a perfect metaphor for Leicester's season. Seemingly dead and buried, Nigel Pearson's club rose from the ashes to accomplish the unthinkable.

It also spawned this wonderful photo:

Best Moment: Jonas Gutierrez secures Newcastle's survival

If you can't enjoy seeing someone who battled - and eventually overcame - testicular cancer with a smile on his face, you have no soul.

Newcastle needed at least a draw on the final day of the season to avoid relegation, and when cancer survivor Jonas Gutierrez scored late in Sunday's match against West Ham to give the Magpies a 2-0 lead - securing their safety - the football world came together to acknowledge the touching, emotional moment.

Sometimes, this game can be a beautiful thing.

Best Goal: Charlie Adam vs. Chelsea

So. Many. Choices.

In the end, I'm judging this by one simple criteria: could any of the great goals that were scored this season be replicated? Juan Mata's scissor-kick against Liverpool, Bobby Zamora's chip against West Brom, Phil Jagielka's thunderbolt in the Merseyside derby. Those could be mimicked in the future.

A 70-yard goal over Thibaut Courtois? Yeah, nope.

The Bad

Biggest Disappointment (Player): Angel Di Maria

It all started so well.

Angel Di Maria stormed into the Premier League after his British-record £59.7-million move to Manchester United from Real Madrid, and questions started to be asked about whether the sinewy Argentine midfielder was on his way to being one of the best players the league had ever seen.

We all got carried away just a bit.

A combination of injuries, changing formations, and a severe dip in form saw the 27-year-old whither, spending much of the second half of the season either in the stands or stapled to the bench.

His 10 assists were still good enough for joint-third in the league, but after his rip-roaring start to life in England, Di Maria's campaign ultimately felt akin to air being let out of a giant balloon.

Biggest Disappointment (Team): Everton

From a 72-point, fifth-place season last year, Everton, hampered by horrendous goalkeeping from Tim Howard, a pressing system that was easily broken week-in and week-out, and a thin squad that actually relied on Aaron Lennon to do things, fell off a cliff in 2014-15.

Having to worry about the added burden of the Europa League didn't help, but I don't think anybody realistically saw the Toffees falling all the way down to 11th this season.

Strangest Outburst: Nigel Pearson is fond of ostriches

Note to journalists everywhere: Nigel Pearson is not afraid to shame you publicly, even if he really has no basis for doing so.

Ian Baker learned that during a post-match press conference following Leicester's 3-1 loss to Chelsea in April, when Pearson went on this puzzling rant:

... your question is absolutely unbelievable, the fact you do not understand where I am coming from. If you don't know the answer to that question then I think you are an ostrich. Your head must be in the sand. Is your head in the sand? Are you flexible enough to get your head in the sand? My suspicion would be no.

At least Baker had some fun with it.

The Ugly

Worst Signing: Mario Balotelli, Liverpool - £16 million from AC Milan

It wasn't entirely his fault, and he came under far too much criticism at Anfield - turning into a whipping boy for the team's overall failure - but the numbers don't lie: Mario Balotelli scored one more goal than you did in the Premier League this season.

That is all.

Worst Moment: Steven Gerrard's red card vs. Manchester United

Worst. Most hilarious. Same thing.

Playing his final match against bitter rivals Manchester United, Liverpool's iconic captain trotted triumphantly onto the pitch to begin the second half after being introduced as a substitute at Old Trafford.

After a whirlwind 38 seconds, he meandered off with his tail between his legs, defeated. Gerrard, in one of the more incredible sequences in recent memory, was shown a straight red card by referee Martin Atkinson for stamping on the leg of Ander Herrera.

It was astonishing, incredibly funny, and terribly sad all at the same time.

Worst Decision: Paul Lambert's contract extension

Maybe Nigel Pearson was talking about the Aston Villa front office all along.

I mean, if we're comparing people to ostriches, the decision to give Paul Lambert a contract extension after securing 10 points from your first four matches - despite gaining those points in entirely unsustainable fashion - reeks of having your head buried in the sand.

Regression hit the Villans like a freight train rumbling down a hill, and Lambert ultimately got the boot in February.

Hata Sir Alex Furguson analijua na kulikiri hili lililo wazi kwa wenye macho na hata wasiyonayo...!

Jose Mourinho: Chelsea boss jokes about Arsenal & Man City

Champions Chelsea have not been given the respect they deserve, according to manager Jose Mourinho, who used the club's end-of-season awards to cheekily poke fun at some title rivals.

Mourinho, 52, is not averse to fanning flames when it comes to mind games, but we have never seen him use computer graphics to add a splash of humour to his impeccably delivered words. Until now.

He began his witty speech: "Last year we were third, we were not happy but we respected the winners in spite of us beating them twice. They deserved to be champions. In spite of us beating the second position team twice, we also said they deserved to be there."

And so began what Mourinho - named Premier League Manager of the Year on Tuesday - called a "fiction story". What could he and his graphics have been getting at?

Jose Mourinho Chelsea's end-of-season awards were attended by the first-team squad, who laughed as their manager spoke

The red team - possession wins nothing

What happened on screen: Red shirts appear, goal posts disappear from either end of the pitch and the team passes the ball between players constantly with nothing to attack or defend.

What Mourinho said: "There is one team that would like to play without goals. That team plays really well, the quality of the ball possession is really beautiful but no goals. They asked the international board of Fifa to play like this but were told it was not possible, that the bigger possession of the ball does not win matches."

BBC Stats Chelsea had less possession despite beating Manchester United in April

What might he be getting at?

Mourinho won a title at Real Madrid while in fierce competition with a Barcelona side who dominated possession of the ball, even against their great rivals. His desire for results over intricate but ineffectual play is obvious and his side's 1-0 win over Manchester United in April, where the Blues had just 30% of the ball, is perhaps an example of what he meant.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal said his side were "the dominant team" on the pitch but Mourinho only cares for dominance of the league table.

The sky blue team - one goal won't cut it

What happened on screen: A team dressed in sky blue pass and score at will but the goal they are defending vanishes into thin air. Cue widespread laughter in the room.

What Mourinho said: "The team were less radical and they asked to play only with one goal. They were fantastic, scored a lot of goals, the goals came from every position but they never conceded goals because there was no goal. Again the international board told them you can't be champions because football is with two goals."

Manchester City scored the most goals in the Premier League but they conceded the most in the top four

What might he be getting at?

Mourinho congratulated Manchester City when they signed striker Wilfried Bony in January and the Premier League runners-up have an abundance of riches with Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic as recognised strikers. Manuel Pellegrini's City side outscored Chelsea by 10 goals over 38 games but conceded more than any other side in the Premier League's top four.

Playing without a goal to defend may well have made a tangible difference but Mourinho, who seems to often have confidence in his opinion, is right, you can't play a game with one goal.

The Red and white team - season starts in August

What happened on screen: A team with red shirts and white sleeves pass and score at will and look superb but some text appears on Mourinho's graphic stating "season from January to April".

What Mourinho said: "The third team was almost there. They wanted to play with two goals, scoring some, also conceding some but they were fantastic. They scored really beautiful goals. But they asked the international board to play only between January and April. They were told 'no chance, you have to play between August and May'."

Chelsea form in the league Chelsea dominated the 2014/15 Premier League from August to May

What might he be getting at? Mourinho has been tough on Arsenal in the past, labelling their manager Arsene Wenger a "specialist in failure" last season but if he is indeed talking about them here, it is their contrasting form either side of Christmas which is under the spotlight.

Wenger's side were eighth in the table in mid-November but lost just three times between 1 January and the end of the season to finish third. Gunners fans can draw some comfort as their side was the only one which the self-proclaimed 'Special One' said were "almost there".

The blue team - bus parking champions

What happened on screen: Passing and goals at one end and as an attack mounts at the other, a red bus drives into the goal to deflect shots away.

What Mourinho said: "And finally came another team. They wanted to play with the normal rules. And they know that to win matches they need to score one more goal than the opponent. They did it both ways, scoring a lot, conceding some or scoring one goal and keeping clean sheets. They played from August to May and sometimes they brought the bus.

"I don't think my players have had the respect they deserve after what they did from day one to the last day."

What might he be getting at? Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said after defeat by Chelsea more than a year ago that the Blues had parked the bus. It was a comment that stuck and even in dominating this season
