According to the HDI, Seychelles is the most developed African country. However, it sits at position 62 on the world stage. The country consists of 115 islands that are situated about 1500 Km to the East of the East African coastline. Mauritius is currently focusing on important sectors such as healthcare, property development, seafood, communication, and renewable energy to boost its economic income.

3. Algeria - HDI: 0.754, GDP per capita: $4,669

Algeria is one of the largest countries in Africa that is situated North of the Sahara and borders Tunisia. It's the third most developed country in Africa and at position 85 in the world. Algeria gets most of its income from the booming oil industry where it is one of the largest producers in Africa. Its dominance in the oil industry has created lots of job opportunities for the Algerian youths. Aside from hydrocarbons, Algeria has struggled to find alternative sources of income. At present, there are developments in the tourism, fuel research, and communications industries, but they are still insignificant compared to the revenue generated by hydrocarbons.

4. Tunisia - HDI: 0.735, GDP per capita: $3,531

The significant expansion of the country's economic muscle is a result of manufacturing, tourism, services and mining. 5. Botswana - HDI: 0.717, GDP per capita: $8,443

Kenya signs marketing deal with CNN
By Evelyn Njoroge, NAIROBI, July 22- Television commercials showcasing Kenya’s tourism destinations will start airing on international cable TV CNN beginning August.

This follows the signing of a contract by Tourism Minister Najib Balala with CNN on Tuesday to air the commercials for the next one year and will cover Europe, Asia, Middle East and Africa.
The internet campaign on the CNN websites will also run for a period of one year targeting the US market.

The initiative is part of a Sh130 million ($2billion) global campaign to revamp tourism in the country from the post 2007 election slump.
Balala signed the agreement in London where he is accompanying the Prime Minister Raila Odinga on a high powered trade and investment visit in the United Kingdom.
The advertising campaign is funded by the European Commission Delegation to Kenya.
This is the first time that Kenya is being marketed through a leading news channel and plans are underway to include other international media in the marketing campaign.
