A Tanzanian man and his wife have been arrested for allegedly placing physically challenged people on the streets of Embu town to beg for money.

Six people living with disabilities, aged between 20 and 25, and two who allegedly pushed the wheelchairs of the severely handicapped were also apprehended on Wednesday night.

Embu West OCPD Francis Sang' said the nine admitted hailing from Tanzania but added that the organiser of the ploy had their identification documents.

He said the arrests followed a tip-off from members of the public, who informed them the group stayed at a hotel in the town.

Sang' said they were told members were moved to various strategic locations in the morning and taken back to the hotel later every day.

Coins amounting to Sh3,844 were recovered from the suspects being held at Embu police station, he said, adding they reported collecting a lot of money.

The OCPD said they tracked down the organiser and that the group will be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.

He asked residents to inform police of suspicious people in their neighbourhoods in an effort to curb crime.

wakiskia Nairobi hawaezi kataa wito .......but kuna beggars wengine wamefaidika sana na ukarimu wa wakenya

Kenya watu huzozana juu ya kudemand usawa wa rasilmali na haki.....in short no one wants to be comfortable in poverty...unlike Tanzanians ambao wana upole sana hata wakinyimwa haki zao
But 46% of your population live under $1 per day, that of Tanzania is only 26% according to WB, sasa huko kuzozana mnazozania kunywa chang'aa au kitugani?
