These are some of the searches that Kenyans have been looking for, for the past 15 years.
Google Trends released the data on Wednesday to celebrate its 15-year anniversary.

The Top searches are those that topped Google’s charts.

The data released reveals that Kenyans’ love for football has remained consistent throughout the 15 years, with many closely following the English Premier League and the Fantasy Premier League.

This made them the first and the fifth top most searched item in the general category.

Other football searches include Champions League, Europa League, La Liga and Serie A.

Local soccer giants Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, and Harambee Stars also made it to the top ten list in the sports category.

English Premier League was the most searched in the general category followed by SportPesa, a betting company started in 2013.

Kenya has the highest number of gambling youth in Sub-Saharan Africa and sports betting has become the most popular form of gambling, according to GeoPoll’s series of studies that looked at the rise of sports betting in Africa.

The data further reveals that Betin Kenya, another betting company, is the third most searched item in the general category.

Jumia Kenya and Jiji Kenya emerged fourth and eighth on the list of top most searched items in the general category respectively.

Jumia Kenya is an online marketplace that started in 2013 while Jiji is an online classifieds platform that enables clients to design, manage, and share their advertisements and interact with the buyer or seller through an easy messaging system.

Fifth on the list is Brighter Monday, a job website founded in Kenya in 2006. It is followed by Fantasy Premier League at the sixth position while Kenya Power emerged as the seventh most searched item over the past 15 years in the general category.

The Kenya Law Reports and the December Global Holidays closed the list of the top searched items in the general category over the last 15 years at numbers nine and ten respectively.

Kenya Law Reports is a major resource for lower courts to the Supreme Court timetables. The website contains past judgements that are regularly used as authorities in ongoing cases.

The December festivities closed the top ten searches over the 15-year period. Google Trends further shows that there were heightened online activities during holidays.

HOW TO
How to make love, how to kiss and how to write a CV topped the searches within the 15-year period.

This shows how much Kenyans are willing to make others feel happy despite their political situation in the country.

The fourth category was What is love, How to make money online, How to fuliza, How to cook pilau, What is my IP, How to bake a cake and How to write an application letter.

PERSONALITIES
The data also shows President Uhuru Kenyatta as the most searched personality followed by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Deputy President William Ruto and lawyer-activist Miguna Miguna came in third and fourth respectively.

Ruto has been making news after his fallout with the president over what he says is betrayal.

Uhuru has gone flat out to compel the opposition into an alliance bringing on board ODM boss Raila Odinga, Nasa-Oka and others.

The President is keen to have Raila — his handshake partner and who fell out with his former Nasa allies —join forces with the One Kenya Alliance. The aim is to crush Ruto's quest for State House.

On the other hand, Miguna made news after his first deportation to Canada in February 2018. This followed his role in the unofficial swearing-in of Raila “the people’s president”.

He was forcibly deported for a second time in under two months after allegedly being drugged as he tried to enter Kenya.

Coming in fifth was Mike Sonko who was impeached as Nairobi governor over gross misconduct. He was followed by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, TV Personality Betty Kyalo, former Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore, State House spokesperson Kanze Dena and TV personality Jeff Koinange.

INSTITUTIONS
Kenyatta University, University of Nairobi, and Moi University emerged as the most searched after institutions followed by Maseno and Mount Kenya Universities.

They were followed by Kenya Revenue Authority, Maseno University, Mount Kenya University, Teachers Service Commission, Strathmore University, Egerton University and Stima Sacco.

In the global personalities category, American model Kim Kardashian, Trinidadian rapper Nicki Minaj, US rapper Lil Wayne, Tele-evangelist Joel Osteen and late Fast and Furious actor Paul Walker attracted the highest
searches over the past 15 years.

Tennis star Serena Williams, founder of Microsoft Bill Gates, global music icon Celine Dion, golf legend Tiger Woods and Canadian actress Nina Dobrev made it to the top ten list.

MUSIC
In the music category, Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz led closely followed by Canadian rapper Nicki Minaj.
Minaj was followed by Tanzanian gospel artist Rose Muhando, Kenya’s Willy Paul, and Jamaican recording artist Vybz Kartel.

Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi’s hit song Despacito attracted the highest searches for its lyrics over the past 15 years followed by Ed Sheraan’s Perfect, Amazing Grace by Diana Ross, Hallelujah, All of Me by John Legend, What a Friend we have in Jesus and Tanzanian Harmonize's hit song Kwangwaru.

In other forms of entertainment, YouTube's data showed a sharp rise in the consumption of locally generated content from elections news to comedies, music, religious, and real-life talk shows. Locally created content that celebrates different ways of life by Kenyans registered the highest viewership.

Pastor Ezekiel Odero recently caused a stir on social media when the Kasarani stadium was filled to capacity during his crusade. A look at YouTube stats gives a clue. He commands a large following in real life and online, as his channel, New Life TV Kenya came second on the top 10 top creators on YouTube, after Thee Pluto show.

Kenyan entertainment also did well on TikTok, as the top most watched videos were local. 'Nyumba imeleta shida by comedian David Oyando, popularly known as Mulamwah, was the most-watched video on Tiktok.

Locally generated entertainment may have carried the day in general, but it is a different story with Kenyan music. While Spotify data showed that Kenyans listened to more local music than last year, they still showed a preference for music from other countries, with Nigerian, Tanzanian and American artistes coming out on top.

Spotify and YouTube seem to attract different kinds of audiences, as their top ten lists of most the listened to music were significantly different. The undeniable consistency between them is that Kenyan artistes do not come out on top on either platform.

Five of the YouTube's top ten music videos were by Tanzania's Diamond Platnumz, The Ben, Marioo, Zuchu, Harmonize and Alikiba. Four Kenyans were in the top ten, but two of those were collaborations with Tanzanians.

Toto by Willy Paul and Kishash by Ndovu Kuu were the only purely Kenyan songs in the top ten. The top video was Calm Down by Rema, while Sugarcane Remix by Ghanian artiste Camidoh came tenth.

On Spotify, however, Nigerian and American artistes came out on top, with no Kenyan or Tanzanian on any of their top streamed lists, with the exception of two curated Kenyan playlists on the top ten playlists.

Incredibly all the top ten most streamed songs on Spotify were by Nigerian artistes. Eight of the most streamed artistes, in general, were American, with Nigerian artistes Burna Boy and Fireboy DML also making the list. The only Kenyan appearance on Google's most searched lyrics, was Tushangilie Kenya Lyrics which came in second, while all the other nine most searched song lyrics were by Nigerian artistes.

Kenyan artistes fared a bit better on Tiktok, with Michael Bundi, Willy Paul, Wahu Kagwi and Guardian Angel being in the top ten most viewed artistes on Tiktok in Kenya. On Tiktok's most soundtracked songs however, Bingo Bango by Madini Classic was the only Kenyan song, coming in at number 10, though Mi Amor by Tanzanian artiste Marioo might also be counted as half Kenyan since it featured Kenyan artiste Jovial. The top ten most sound-tracked songs were mostly by Tanzanians, followed by Nigeria's Ruger, Kizz Daniel and Ayra Starr with three songs in the top ten.

On the influencer side, 2022 seems to have been Jackie Matubia's year, as she came seventh on YouTube's top ten creators, was named their number one breakout creator, with her channel attracting the highest number of new subscriptions registered as she discussed issues from personal finance, love life, baby 'journey' to family issues. Her video, "oops!" was the second most watched on Tiktok this year.

Less surprisingly, during an election year, something to do with elections was bound to be on the lists, so "IEBC portal" was the single most searched item overall on Google this year.
