KQ, South African Airways team up to widen connections

Kenya Airways passengers now have more choices for travel into Southern Africa including Cape Town, Durban, and Harare following a deal with South African Airways.
The codeshare agreement signed on Tuesday, allows travellers to combine flight segments and baggage on a single ticket making it seamless to travel to more destinations.
Travellers from South Africa will be able to travel to African destinations including Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Entebbe, Mombasa, and Kisumu.
The code-sharing agreement will also see each airline sell, under its own code, flights operated by each other that is SAA and KQ as demand for air travel rebounds.
The memorandum touches on strategic positioning in global aviation, diversifying earning streams, and reinforcing regional partnership in Africa through diplomatic and commercial relations.
This is expected to spur an increase in passenger traffic, cargo opportunities, and general trade by taking advantage of strengths in South Africa, Kenya, and Africa.
“We are very pleased to implement the codeshare with SAA which offers our shared customers more options and flight combinations," Kenya Airways CEO Allan Kilavuka said.
South African Airways interim CEO John Lamola said the airline clientele will gain new travel choices to markets across East Africa via Kenya’s extensive network and hub in Nairobi, providing for seamless travel and status recognition.
In November 2021, KQ and SAA signed a Strategic Partnership Framework to work together to increase passenger traffic, cargo opportunities, and general trade by taking advantage of strengths in South Africa, Kenya, and Africa.
This codeshare agreement builds upon an existing prorate agreement which was signed earlier this year.
