We never import timber, this is not true, but it is true that big part of timber cutting is illegal, here are the reasons
1)Timber businesses involves mainly hard wood which must come from indeginous trees (miti asili), these trees takes many years to grow, hence not easy to replace them.
2)There are tough laws to protect these "miti asili", somebody needs special government permission before you can be allowed to cut them.
3)Because the business is lucrative, people do cut them illegaly.
4)But electric poles and soft wood are not from "miti asili" soft wood are manly from Pine and Eucalyptus trees which are planted and harvested the same way like sugar cane, these are not part of illegal business.
