Kenya Railways is once again preparing something big and enjoyable for the thousands of Kenyans who commute on a daily basis. The state entity, has been rushing against time to complete major renovation works, both for the locomotives, coaches and the railway infrastructure. The renovations are aimed at facilitating affordable and comfortable commuting to millions of residents of the city under the sun.
With a possibility of raking in billions through passenger fares, Kenya Railways is yet again expected to rise from the ruins of the past decades, to be a profit making venture. The company has chosen a new approach, which will see the parastatal run the trains as well as bus rapid transit (BRT) vehicles.
Some of the major renovation works was done at the Nairobi Central Station. The station, which is at the heart of the city center will be like a nerve center for all railway operations. The station, which is poised to receive an increased number of passengers was upgraded to a modern level, with additional security and ticketing facilities. The entire structure housing the central station also received a major face-lift, with works now at advanced levels of completion.
As expected, the revamped facility is now an attractive site to behold, and soon the millions of city residents will usher in a perfectly new way to commute. Perhaps the jams will be something of the past. We wait.
