Arsène Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal will sign a new player by the time the World Cup starts.

With just two games to go in the Premier League season, transfer rumours are already filling the back pages. As you would expect the Frenchman refused to name any targets but he did reveal he would "certainly" bring in a new face before the tournament begins in South Africa on June 11.

"We have a basic squad and I believe in the squad I have," he said. "But if I can make an addition – two or three maximum – then we will do it.

"I will try to do what I want to do as quickly as possible but I am not the only decider. It doesn't only depend on me.

"Ideally, you would want to do the job before the World Cup. It is difficult to give yourself the right timing.

"Certainly, we will announce one player before the World Cup. After that we will see."

Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger 'Very Disappointed' With Andrey Arshavin Comments, Hints At 'Two Or Three' Summer Arrival​

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admits he is disappointed with Andrey Arshavin after the midfielder claimed that a move to Barcelona would represent "the peak of my career."

The Russian playmaker, who is currently injured with a calf problem, was quoted by Russian newspaper Sport Express, though he has subsequently claimed he would finish his career at Arsenal.

"When you are at Arsenal, you are at Arsenal. When you are somewhere else, you are somewhere else.

"I believe that your pride makes first that you defend your club.

"Everybody has the freedom to speak, but you want to make sure first of all that you respect your club."
"Yes, I am very disappointed because he shows a completely different attitude," the French boss said.

These latest comments are not the first time that Arshavin has been quoted as questioning his future at the Emirates Stadium, but Wenger believes that part of the problem may be an issue of translation
