Zain(celtel) yapunguza wafanyakazi 141

Forget about MBM for now, Outsource is not about cutting down the work force, it is about managing the work force to deliver and that is absolutely what Zain is all about. As far as I understand Zain may have already formed another entity - call it - ZainCC and this entity will be handling the "customer care/services" unit which will include all the call-centres across the Zain operations.

During the formation of ZainCC (of which Zain may be a share holder) there will be SLAs laid down, and also the KPIs for each customer care/service staff will be set and these will be used as basis for measuring the performance of ZainCC and ZainCC staff.

What will be happening now is that, these cute ladies and handsome boys will be given an option to be employed/seconded to ZainCC (and probably be paid less) OR be paid there terminal benefits and there they go!

Out of this setup - losing a job is likely if at all you have been staying idle in the previous job setup. Outsorcing or Insourcing does not keep workers because they are cute or handsome, it keeps only those who are SMART and that is it. Also there few chances in outsourced environment kuajili mtoto wa shangazi, mjomba, e.t.c au Miss Nkaka au anything of that sort!!!

In the outsourced environment you report to yourself and deliver the service globally.

This sound like some BS that management would try to shove down peoples throats.
Outsourcing is about doing things as cheaply as possible, are you telling me they couldn't set up KPIs and all that other crap at their current call center???
Just ask any American who has to deal with an Indian call center if his experience has been improved! It has nothing to do with the customer its all about the bottom line.
These jobs are probably going to end up in India, where the labor is cheap and plenty.

Kwa upande wa ZAIN na nukuu,"Zain Africa Chief Executive Officer, Chris Gabriel, said all the legal
requirements had been followed in the laying off exercise that will
see the retrenched staff go home with a generous compensation
package.

He said the company would work within 90 days to try to absorb the
workers into other partner organizations."

So hilo linaweza tokea unamka asubuhi mara network hupati ,saa, siku, wiki unaelezwa jamaa wamecollapse.

Very sad lakini tusipojaribu kuleta incentives we are lost.
Sasa Zain wangetimua watu wengi hivi hapa Bongo ungesikia labour unions zetu zinapiga kelele na ku-complicate, for business to flourish it has to be easy to hire and fire.

Hebu fikiria mkuu. Call center ikifunguliwa Nairobi wote watakuwa wakenya, that is why they are doing it, to cut costs, siyo kuongeza cost eti wabebe warembo kuokota simu, wawalipe expat salary, and housing etc.

Zain yapunguza wafanyakazi 141

Dear Zain Team,
Further to the communication sent to you the past two months, Zain Group is in the process of changing the way in which it operates and Zain Tanzania has over the last year sought to benchmark its structure and operational resource levels with other companies in the Zain Group as well as other global telecom players.
As a result, the company has decided to re-look at its operating model and in close collaboration between Zain Group functions and the management of the Zain operations has developed a Modular Business Model which will continue to evolve during 2009.
The aim of the Modular Business Model (MBM) is to enable the operations to focus on the key customer facing activities - delivering true market differentiation and continuing to deliver on our Zain brand promise. MBM will maximize on the synergies with the Group and with the other Zain Opcos. Through a combination of managed outsourcing, standardization, and centralization we will strive to improve our efficiencies, leverage capabilities, lower our costs, improve staff training and development, and achieve higher performance.
Our MBM initiatives in 2009 have already included:
· Hiring freeze and adoption of a 4 layers organizational structure
· Significant capital and operational expenditure reductions
· Centralization of the network planning function with the Group
In light of the above and the need to operate efficiently, the company has deemed it necessary to restructure several functions and reduce the number of staff in the organization to an optimal level required to run the company efficiently. The restructuring includes the following changes:
The CTO role is no longer needed and Thierry Diasonama has been appointed as the Network Director overseeing all network functions. In parallel, Bayan Monadgem has been appointed as Network Director for East Africa in a new role that seeks maximum synergies in network investments for all the operations in East Africa. Thierry will have a dual reporting role to me as MD of Zain TZ and to Bayan as Network Director of East Africa. Thierry is also in the process of restructuring the Network Department to be aligned with Group Network Department guidelines. The details of the new Network Department structure will be communicated by Thierry shortly.
The Commercial department has also re-aligned its structure in order to improve efficiency and performance to fit with the needs of the business. The Sales and Marketing Directors roles have become vacant. Kelvin Twissa has been appointed as the acting Marketing Director and Godfrey Mugambe as the acting Sales Director. Godfrey is also responsible for new role: National Distribution Manager, overseeing the Territory Managers in a critical role where we are focusing our efforts to maximize the opportunity in our urban and rural areas across Tanzania. The details of the new commercial structure will be communicated by Walingo shortly.
The Administration department within Finance has now been changed to be called Shared Services and will report into the Human Resources department effective immediately.
As a result of this restructuring, we have decided to undertake a retrenchment exercise. Some roles within the various departments will be consolidated to increase efficiency and accountability and to fit in with other operations. Other positions will cease to exist. This overall restructuring has resulted in releasing a total of 25 staff from our current workforce of 823 across all layers of the organisation.
The individuals affected will be informed before by the end of this week, 15 May 2009. The decision to release staff is not an easy one for the company and we will ensure that we provide individual affected staff with information and support to reduce any uncertainties during this time. I will continue to provide regular updates to all staff as we progress through this process and will be liaising directly with each team so that you have complete clarity on where we are at and where we are heading.
As responsible leaders and managers at Zain, we sometimes have to take difficult decisions for the long term benefit and financial health of the entire organization. We will ensure that we support all impacted staff in every way possible where we can. As for the rest of you, we have faith in your capabilities and have high expectations of you. We are committed to your development and your long term growth with Zain Tanzania and Zain Group. We encourage you to maintain focus during this stage of our evolution and to raise any queries or concerns that you may have with your department manager.
Best regards,

Khaled Muhtadi

we need to change the way we spend...cut your costs...watanzaia wengi bado hawajashtuka na matumizi bado yako juu...USA na UK kuna watu wanatembea kutafuta kazi wana PHD na wengine wanaishi kwenye magari hali ya kuwa walikuwa na good life...

NAZANI NI MUDA MUAFAKA KUANZA KUELIMISHA JAMII JINSI YA KUJIANDAA NA HALI HII JAPO IMESHAFIKA....
