Vodacom Tanzania PLC has announced strong financial results for the year ended March 2026, recording significant growth in revenue and profit driven by strategic investments, customer expansion and increased adoption of digital and financial services.

The company reported that service revenue grew by 21.8 percent to TZS 1.85 trillion, supported by a growing customer base and higher usage of voice, data and mobile financial services across the country. Net profit after tax rose by 18.4 percent to TZS 107.1 billion, while underlying net profit surged by 125.5 percent year-on-year to reach TZS 204.1 billion after excluding temporary one-off costs related to radio access network modernization.

Speaking on the preliminary financial results released in Dar es Salaam on May 8, 2026, Vodacom Tanzania Chief Executive Officer, Philip Besiimire, said the company’s strong performance reflects effective strategy execution, disciplined cost management and continued investment in technology and infrastructure.

“Our strong performance reflects deliberate investment choices and our continued focus on scaling services that deliver value for both our customers and shareholders. Our customer base grew by 22.3 percent and we sustained our position as the market leader,” said Besiimire.

The company made a record capital investment of TZS 323.9 billion during the financial year, representing an 85.1 percent increase compared to the previous year. The investment was directed towards expanding broadband coverage, improving network quality and modernizing technology infrastructure to meet growing demand for digital connectivity and mobile services.

Vodacom also recorded strong growth in its digital financial services business through M-Pesa. Revenue from M-Pesa increased by 24.5 percent, driven by increased use of digital lending, savings and merchant payment services. The company disclosed that more than TZS 3 trillion in microloans were disbursed during the year, highlighting the growing role of mobile financial services in supporting financial inclusion and small businesses.

In addition, deposits under the M-Koba savings platform grew by more than 80 percent, surpassing TZS 1 trillion, while the M-Wekeza investment platform continued attracting customers, with total investments exceeding TZS 370 billion in less than two years since its launch.

Data revenue also registered impressive growth of 29.5 percent, supported by an increase in smartphone users and growing demand for internet services. Vodacom attributed the growth to sustained investment in network expansion and improved digital infrastructure across Tanzania.

Despite global geopolitical pressures and disruptions affecting the telecommunications industry, Vodacom Tanzania emphasized that it has maintained consistent financial performance and transparency as the only publicly listed telecommunications company in the country. The company also reaffirmed its commitment to long-term value creation and responsible corporate leadership after operating in Tanzania for 25 years under the Vodacom brand.

Beyond business growth, Vodacom continued investing in social impact programmes aimed at improving community welfare. These initiatives included free health screening camps, ICT modernization in schools, environmental conservation through tree-planting programmes and sponsorship of the Twende Butiama cycling tour.

Looking ahead, the company said it will continue prioritizing investments in network infrastructure, expansion of enterprise and financial services and enhancement of customer experience. Vodacom also plans to align its operations with Tanzania’s national development plans and digital transformation agenda while strengthening its position as a leading technology and connectivity provider.

“As we look to the future, we remain committed to partnering with government and stakeholders to support Tanzania’s development agenda and build a digitally inclusive society,” Besiimire said.
