JUNIOR ACCOUNTANT
INDUSTRY: RETAIL
HR World Limited, on behalf of our client, we are seeking to recruit a Junior Accountant responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring effective POS, cash, inventory controls, and supporting payroll, tax compliance, and financial reporting across retail shops and service operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain complete and accurate books of accounts for all retail shops and service operations.
• Record and reconcile daily sales, purchases, expenses, debtors, creditors, and bank transactions.
• Ensure proper classification of income, costs, and expenses in accordance with accounting standards.
• Validate daily POS data for cash sales, card payments, and mobile money transactions (M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa, Airtel Money, HaloPesa).
• Perform daily reconciliations between POS reports, physical cash, mobile money statements, and bank deposits.
• Investigate and resolve variances promptly and report discrepancies to management.
• Maintain stock inward and outward records, GRNs, and daily stock movement logs.
• Reconcile system stock against physical stock on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
• Coordinate with operations and store teams to control stock losses, shrinkage, and pricing errors.
• Prepare monthly payroll including salaries, advances, deductions, commissions, and overtime.
• Maintain payroll records in compliance with statutory requirements.
• Support HR with employee cost tracking and payroll-related reporting.
• Prepare monthly expense summaries, cash flow statements, and profit & loss reports.
• Support management with MIS reports, dashboards, and financial performance analysis.
• Ensure compliance with TRA requirements including VAT, withholding tax (WHT), SDL, and other statutory obligations.
• Maintain proper documentation for audits, tax reviews, and regulatory inspections.
• Liaise with TRA officials, auditors, suppliers, and external consultants when required.
• Maintain organized digital and physical financial records including invoices, receipts, and supplier ledgers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3–5 years’ hands-on accounting experience in retail, trading, distribution, or service-oriented businesses.
• Strong working knowledge of Tally ERP 9 (mandatory).
• Advanced Excel skills including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, and reconciliation models.
• Proven experience handling POS-based accounting and reconciliations.
• Solid understanding of TRA regulations, VAT, and local tax compliance.
• High level of accuracy, integrity, discipline, and confidentiality.
• Good written and spoken English and Swahili.
