About Hasa
Hasa Kingo (Democratic Party) is a judge-elect for Manhattan 5th Municipal Court District of the New York City Civil Court New York County. He assumes office on January 1, 2022.My parents sacrificed a lot to bring me to this country, and what those sacrifices have taught me is the importance of selflessly giving every full measure of my time and energy to causes larger than myself. I live my life imbued with the notion that to whom much is given, much is
expected.
Hasa is a career public servant, devoted husband and father of two. He is an immigrant born in Harare, Zimbabwe, to Tanzanian parents, a proud American citizen and a dedicated New Yorker.
Hasa spent his childhood moving from Zimbabwe to Botswana to Canada to, finally, Las Vegas, Nevada, as his parents pursued their dreams of becoming medical workers in America. Before his retirement, his father worked for many years as a neonatologist and pediatrician, saving the lives of countless infants. His mother worked as a registered nurse at a long-term care facility, taking care of the elderly and most vulnerable members of society. From their example, he learned the values of hard work, generosity and respect for all. It’s why he chose
to dedicate his life’s work to public service.
After graduating from Northwestern University, Hasa attended Georgetown University Law Center, where he served as the Editor in Chief of the Georgetown Journal on Poverty Law & Policy. He also interned at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York and for the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.
During an internship in Washington, D.C., in 2006, Hasa met his wife Audrey. Together, they live in Manhattan with their two young children.
CAREER PUBLIC SERVANT
After law school, Hasa began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney at the Manhattan D.A.’s office, where he prosecuted thousands of misdemeanor and felony cases and gained valuable litigation experience. Since then, he has worked in the New York State Attorney General’s Office as an Assistant Attorney General, and as a former court attorney for the Hon. Peter H. Moulton, New York State Supreme Court Justice. He is currently the Principal Court Attorney for the Hon. George J. Silver, Deputy Chief Administrative Judge of the New York City Courts. He was named “Most Highly Qualified” by the 2021 New York County Democratic Party Independent Screening Panel.
