Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho insists his relationship with Paul Pogba remains good but underlined that "no player is bigger than the club".

"You [journalists] made an incredible story out of 15 minutes of an open training session. What happened the other day happens on many days. Conversations with players, I have many, many, many, many times. Loud instructions happen every day – coaching is about that.

"But you make stories out of it so I am happy that the rules are only 15 minutes once a month and with situations like that it is not going to change. There is no chance I am going to open the training session and let you watch a training session.

Pogba plays tomorrow
"The team needs good players and he is a good player. The team needs players with personality to play – he has and he plays tomorrow. He is a player like the others. No player is bigger than the club and if I'm happy with his work, he plays; if I'm not happy with his work, he doesn't play. I'm happy with his work."

I explained my captaincy call
"I explained in detail to the people who have to know, which is the squad and especially Paul. Myself and my coaching staff decided to do that and I always analyse a player as a player.

"When a player is a captain, I analyse the player by the player's perspective, but also by the captain's perspective. And after weeks of analysing and changing opinions with my coaching staff, we had the decision that from now Paul is just a player and not a captain.

"So decision made. I informed obviously the player and the other players and then when I was asked, before the match on Tuesday, I confirmed. Now I confirm again and end of the story."

"I think Paul said in one of his appearances in the famous mixed zone and he is exactly correct: it's a good relationship between player and manager.

"I cannot tell you [what was said on Wednesday]. The training session was open; you had some cameras with some potential to get some of the words. Maybe you have to change that potential if you want to know everything that is said, because I am not going to comment.

"A draw at home against a Championship team – a good Championship team, but against a Championship team – is not a good result for us. The same as the draw against Wolverhampton: a good team, but a team that we have to beat at Old Trafford.

The Bulgarian told Betfair: "If you are a captain or vice-captain, you're more often than not speaking on behalf of the players, and there is nothing wrong with giving the manager your thoughts.
"But this shouldn't be done in the media - it helps nobody for these arguments to be played out in public.

"I'm really surprised it has got to this stage. This sort of thing really needs to be kept in-house. You're all grown-ups, figure it out in the dressing room.
"For Mourinho to have gone as far as removing the vice captaincy, Pogba must have provoked him - whether it was the comments after the Wolves game or something else. But these arguments affect everybody else and start having an impact on the pitch.
"As someone who wants Manchester United to do well, I'm fed up of waking up and seeing these headlines. Football should be about what happens on the pitch. It's a stupid situation."
