Kwa wale wapenzi wa Man Utd mlio na access na BBC2 wanaonyesha movie inayomhusu Sir Matt Busby na timu yake.

Hawa FA wameanza kutufanyia hila tangu zamani sana....

Papizo hii movie ina miss vitu fulani, well I guess its just a movie tukitaka kila kitu tuangalie documentary.

Metzelder identifies Rooney threat

April 25, 2011
By ESPNsoccernet staff

Schalke defender Christoph Metzelder has put a target firmly on Wayne Rooney's back ahead of Manchester United's Champions League semi-final first leg visit to Germany on Tuesday.

Rooney has rediscovered something like his best form in recent weeks and he was again influential in United's 1-0 Premier League victory over Everton at Old Trafford on Saturday, drifting off the forward line expertly to dictate play.
Metzelder, 30, said Schalke are well aware of Rooney's ability to find space and would be looking to limit his freedom, even if merely seeking to do so and actually achieving that aim can be two different stories.
"It's all about stopping Rooney, he's the key player," Metzelder said. "The first match is at home so it will be very important not to concede a goal. Against Chelsea he dropped into the midfield, so it's important to defend against him not only with the defensive line but also with the midfielders.

Metzelder said he was glad Schalke had avoided favourites Barcelona in their first-ever Champions League semi-final, claiming United more conventional style of play is easier to counter than the tiki-taka of the Spanish pass-masters.
"Of course we know that Manchester United have so many key players but they don't scare us," he said. "It would be much more difficult for us to play against Barcelona. The style of Manchester United is easier for us, if you can say that. Barcelona take control and they make you run so much it's very difficult to defend against them. It's easier to play against teams like Manchester United - or even Real Madrid."
But Metzelder is by no means underestimating the challenge ahead for Schalke, though, conceding the German side are the underdogs.
"Manchester United have had so much experience in the Champions League over the last 20 years. Individually they are so very strong so they're big favourites.
"Our advantage is certainly that Manchester United will be busy thinking about facing either Real or Barcelona at Wembley in the final. We will definitely be looking to come up with something."

Time to show our pedigree - O'Shea

April 25, 2011
John O'Shea feels Manchester United must show Schalke their true class in Tuesday night's Champions League semi-final.

John O'Shea can't see why Manchester United will not progress

• Metzelder targets Rooney
• Fergie out to end hoodoo
• Raul eyes 'dream' United scalp
United prepared to head out to Germany on Monday installed as overwhelming favourites to book a blockbuster Wembley confrontation with either Real Madrid or Barcelona on May 28.
At the same time as the Premier League champions-elect were recording their weekend win over Everton, Schalke were losing on home soil to Kaiserslautern, strengthening even further a belief that Sir Alex Ferguson's men will make it through with something to spare.
Neither O'Shea, nor any of his team-mates, are likely to get lured into that kind of thinking. But after failing to overcome Borussia Dortmund at the same stage in 1997 and Bayer Leverkusen two years later, the Irishman feels it is time United flexed their muscle.
"We have to make sure we show them our history, why we have got to finals, why we have won them, why we have been in this situation many times before,'' he said. "We have to impose ourselves whilst understanding the threats they have, which we will have to cope with.''
If United have been something of an enigma this term, battling to within seven points of a record 19th title despite rarely hitting the heights of previous seasons, Schalke's form is even more puzzling. Firmly entrenched in mid-table after a disappointing Bundesliga campaign, Schalke have reserved all their best performances for Europe.
They are unbeaten since losing to Lyon in their opening group game and after dismissing a Valencia outfit that gave United two tough matches earlier this season, Schalke then slammed seven goals past holders Inter Milan at the quarter-final stage, with veteran Spain striker Raul finding the net in both legs.
"I wouldn't say we are pleased with the draw,'' said O'Shea. "Schalke have reached a Champions League semi-final. They have got to be a good team. We are favourites, which adds a bit of pressure but any side who can score so many goals against Inter Milan has to have something about them.''
O'Shea also knows Schalke's fanatical supporters tend to generate a hostile atmosphere in the Veltins Arena - where Wayne Rooney was sent-off during England's World Cup quarter-final defeat to Portugal in 2006 - although after squeezing past Marseille in the last 16 after a goalless first encounter, he is not convinced United's hopes of overall success hinge on them grabbing an away goal.
"We have to use our experience to quieten their crowd down,'' he said. "An away goal is always nice but it is not the be all and end all. We know if we are in sight when we come back to Old Trafford, we will have a great chance.''

Fergie has history in his sights

April 25, 2011
By ESPNsoccernet staff

Ahead of a semi-final meeting with Schalke on Tuesday, Sir Alex Ferguson says he is motivated by the desire to establish Manchester United in the top echelon of clubs in the history of the European Cup.

siralexferguson20110425press_275x155.jpg
Sir Alex Ferguson has won the famous trophy twice at Old Trafford

Though United have triumphed three times - with their storied history including the success over Benfica in 1968 that came ten years after the Munich air disaster, the incredible injury-time comeback against Bayern Munich in 1999 and a dramatic penalty shootout win against Chelsea in 2008 - they are not historically in the top rank of clubs in the competition.
Real Madrid lead the way with nine victories, Milan boast seven, Liverpool have secured five and Ajax and Bayern Munich have both lifted the cup on four occasions.
With United closing in on a record 19th league title, and also possessing a record 11 FA Cups thanks to their manager, Ferguson is determined to ensure further success in Europe this season.
"The present group has enough experience in Europe now. I think it's where we should be," Ferguson said.
"My expectation has always been high in regard to the European scene. You do get envious of other clubs' records in Europe and we're trying to get to parity with those clubs: Real Madrid, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Ajax, Liverpool. We need to progress quickly to get to that level again."
In Schalke, United face a side that unexpectedly disposed of reigning champions Inter in the previous round. They have never reached this stage of the competition, while United have played in 12 semi-finals and are bidding to reach a third final in four seasons.
However, German clubs Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund have all beaten United at this stage during Ferguson's reign and the Scot is not anticipating an easy evening at Veltins Arena.
"You always get apprehensive at this stage of the competition," he said. "We've had the same situation over the years, when we played Juventus (in the 1998-99 campaign). There was apprehension in the first game at home (1-1) but we released that in the second leg (3-2).
"It was the same with Barcelona (2007-08). We got the result we wanted at home (1-0) but the last few minutes were agony. You run the full gamut of emotion in Champions League semi-finals, because it's never easy.
"There is no way Manchester United will be led into believing this is going to be easy. Schalke have beaten every team at home in the Champions League this season, including Valencia and Inter Milan. If you just take that in isolation, it is good form. This is going to be a difficult game and we will treat it that way.''
United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar will equal Claude Makelele's record when making his 13th appearance at the semi-final stage.
The 40-year-old, who retires this summer, said: "It is always nice when you are involved in a winning team. We have been good recently, so hopefully we can carry that on. I have had a reasonable career so far. Let's hope I can finish it off nicely."

United need to end German jinx

Manchester United go into Tuesday night's Champions League semi-final with Schalke as favourites to go through, despite manager Sir Alex Ferguson suffering defeat on all four occasions he has faced German sides in the two-leg knock-out stages of Europe's flagship competition.
Last season, Louis van Gaal's Bayern Munich sent United crashing out at the quarter-final stage despite Ferguson's side racing into a three-goal lead at Old Trafford to overturn a 2-1 deficit from the first leg. However, the wheels came off United's drive towards a third consecutive final when Ivica Olic scored just before half-time, Rafael was sent off after the restart and Arjen Robben struck a stunning volley to send the Bundesliga side through on away goals.

Bayern also proved too good for United in the quarters in 2001, winning 3-1 on aggregate, and United have twice fallen to other German sides at the semi-final stage. The Red Devils lost out to Dimitar Berbatov's Bayer Leverkusen in 2002, with Oliver Neuville sending the Werkself through on away goals and against Borussia Dortmund in 1997, thanks to goals from Rene Tretschok and Lars Ricken. The latter defeat proved to be particularly costly as it prompted United legend Eric Cantona to retire from the game at the age of 31.

So it was no surprise that a wary Ferguson rested the likes of captain Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra and Ryan Giggs for the weekend's Premier League clash against Everton, a vital game in the race to win the domestic title, and only reluctantly threw the latter two into the fray late on as the Red Devils battled for a 1-0 win. Berbatov was also absent from the game at Old Trafford but will not return to the squad to face Schalke as the club's leading goalscorer is sidelined with a groin injury.

Schalke have injury problems of their own. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Peer Kluge and Christoph Moritz have all been ruled out but highly-rated centre-back Benedikt Howedes will return to the team after being rested for Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Kaiserslautern in the Bundesliga.

After finishing runners-up to Bayern Munich in their domestic league last season, Schalke have struggled this term. Die Königsblauen sacked manager Felix Magath in March and replaced him with former Hoffenheim boss Ralf Rangnick, who oversaw the German club's phenomenal 7-3 (aggregate) thrashing of defending European Champions Inter Milan in the last round.

With nothing left to fight for in the Bundesliga, Rangnick is fully focused on the Champions League and is expected to make wholesale changes to the scratch side that lost to Kaiserslautern. The rested quintet of Kyriakos Papadopoulos, Jose Jurado, Joel Matip, Alexander Baumjohann and Jefferson Farfan mean Schalke can select an entirely different midfield.

Schalke one to watch - Raul: Despite winning the Champions League three times as a Real Madrid player, as many times as United have won the competition, Raul doesn't get the credit he deserves in England, where the feeling is that he was often carried by a very good team. However, at the age of 33 the Spaniard brought an end to 16 years at the Bernabeu for a new challenge in Germany and quickly showed his quality. Raul has scored five European goals in his first season to increase his European and Champions League record tally to 71 goals in 140 games, more than one in every other match. He is still the danger man.

Manchester United one to watch - Ryan Giggs: The Welsh winger is another old stager whose experience has proven vital this season and, at the age of 37, he is the sole survivor of the United's famous triumph over German opponents Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final (Paul Scholes was suspended). Time and again United have turned to Giggs to change their fortunes this season and he has delivered from a variety of roles; from the wing, central midfield and left back. After a recent run of games the veteran was rested for the FA Cup semi-final defeat to neighbours Manchester City and the weekend clash against Everton with this game in mind.

Key Battle - Benedikt Howedes v Javier Hernandez - Schalke's young, German defender has been capped at all levels from Under-18 through to U-21 and won the UEFA European U-21 Football Championship in 2009. He is a tall, quick and aggressive centre-back who has been linked with a big money move to host of clubs, including Arsenal and Manchester City and, having begun his career as a defensive midfielder, is also versatile. But the highly-rated 23-year-old will have to be at his best to nullify the threat of Hernandez, who has forced his way into the United team ahead of schedule and has struck up a deadly strike partnership with Wayne Rooney. The Mexican's movement off the ball means his is invariably in space when the final pass arrives and the 22-year-old, who has netted 12 goals in 24 Premier League games, scored both goals in the 2-1 home win over Marseille in the Champions League last-16.

Trivia: Schalke, who have only won one of their last six games against English teams, lost at home to United's neighbours Manchester City 2-0 in the last such meeting in the UEFA Cup two seasons ago.

Stat: Manchester United are yet to concede a goal during their five away games this term but Schalke have won every single one of their home matches in the Champions League this season.

Odds: Schalke (3.40), the draw (3.20) and Manchester United (2.25) are all available at bet365, but Raul to score in a 1-0 Schalke win offers odds of 31.00.

Prediction: United will be happy to keep yet another clean sheet away from home, confident they can finish the job at Old Trafford, so this will be tight affair and could end 1-0 to the visitors.

Today in Germany

ManUtd.com's Gemma Thompson will be with the squad throughout their stay in Germany and you can interact with her on our message board.

Monday 25 April (all times are local, Germany is 1 hour ahead of BST)

21:20 Right guys, I'm off to grab some dinner. I'll be back in touch in a while before I go to bed.

21:00 So how are you doing with your starting line-ups? It's not easy is it. Even United legend Denis Irwin was struggling to decide before I spoke to him at training. Check out the video on the left to see what XI he's gone for.

20:45 The players looked really sharp during the session at the stadium earlier - they're clearly enjoying the thrill of the chase at the moment as we go for two trophies. There was one special moment during a small-sided game, which the team finished the session with, when Paul Scholes had his back to goal yet he still managed to turn and volley home left-footed into the top corner when the ball came to him. It was that good a finish it drew applause from virtually every player. One more year Scholesy, please!

20:35 Just got back to the hotel. Our coach driver's map reading skills haven't been the best so far today, suffice to say we came the 'long way round' from the stadium! The players are heading for some dinner before having a relaxing evening. I think some are hoping to watch the Blackburn v Manchester City game.

19:59 I bumped into Stewart Gardner from MUTV just now and he revealed the boss told him ahead of the press conference that it's only a slight groin strain keeping Dimitar Berbatov out and he hopes the Bulgarian will be available for Sunday's trip to Arsenal.

19:09 The players are training now inside the impressive Veltins Arena. The main group have done their usual running and stretching to kick the session off, while the goalkeepers warm-up at the other end of the pitch.

18:48 Just confirmation that Sam Johnstone has linked up with the squad as third-choice keeper, as we mentioned earlier. Apparently, Sam's departure from the Torneo Memorial Claudio Sassi, coupled with an injury to Joe Coll, has meant midfielder Oliver Norwood being pressed into emergency goalkeeping duties in the final of the youth tournament!

18:27 Sir Alex was asked about any interest in Schalke's Manuel Neuer but laughed and shrugged it off.

18:23 More from the boss: "Schalke never looked like losing against Inter. That's quite a credit to them when you consider the experienced side they were up against. They were in control and made a good impression on me when I was here."

18:20 "This is a team that will not give in. There's absolutely no chance of that. That's a great quality. You saw that against Everton."

18:16 "I don't like jumping ahead," asserted the manager, when asked about who he would prefer to face in the final. "If we can deal with Schalke, then we'll look at it but you don't care who you play in the final."

18:13 "Any semi-final you go into, you know it will be tough," says Sir Alex. "It's not easy for
either side but we hope we can progress."
18:09 The press conference is about to get underway..
17:42 I'm glad rain isn't forecast for tomorrow - the roof on the stadium broke in January apparently and is yet to be fixed. The press box ISN'T covered with it open so very thankful for the scheduled sun tomorrow!
17:33 I've just got to Schalke's stadium and wow, it's very impressive - inside and out. I'll post a couple of pics later. I'm just waiting for the boss and Edwin van der Sar to greet a packed press conference.
16:57 Just a note that Thursday's reserve game with Arsenal will now take place at Old Trafford rather than Moss Lane.
16:27 Right guys, I'm off to grab my lift to the press conference. Will be back in touch around 18:00 local time.
16:23 Schalke manager Ralf Rangnick has just had his say on tomorrow's game at his pre-match press conference. He admits that the Reds are much more experienced than his side, but is urging his players to turn that factor into a positive. "They do have a very experienced team, on average three to four years older than ours. But maybe the fact we are more inexperienced means we are a really hungry team with more passion. We saw that against Inter Milan. Hopefully that will be a benefit for us."
16:07 Thanks for all your comments so far on Talking Reds. Liam Richcard - I very much hope you're right about me being a lucky charm for the team! My away record has been pretty good in recent years, well, United's has obviously, and I was at the Emirates for our last Champions League semi-final away trip so let's hope for a repeat result tomorrow night. Ahmad Karaki - as far as I know Giggsy is fit and raring to go and I personally think he'll start. JimmyN - well done on getting the quiz question right, I'm giving you a virtual round of applause right now!

16:01 I'm really looking forward to seeing the Veltins Arena later after hearing glowing reports about the stadium from a number of the journalists on the trip. Many of them were there for England's World Cup defeat to Portugal in 2006 (Rooney was sent off if you remember) and they were highly impressed with the set-up. The Royal Blues - as Schalke are known - regularly get 62,000 sell-outs with their fans having a reputation for being pretty noisy.

15:45 I sat with Danny Taylor from The Guardian and former Manchester Evening News reporter David Meek on the plane. We got chatting about possible starting line-ups for tomorrow night with both struggling to decide on their front six. Here's what they want for... Danny: Van der Sar; O'Shea, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra; Carrick, Scholes, Giggs; Nani, Rooney, Park. David: Van der Sar; O'Shea, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra; Carrick, Scholes, Park; Nani, Hernandez, Rooney. Tricky one isn't it. Post your starting XI's on Talking Reds now.

15:16 Check out the video with Stuart in the left-hand menu and also one with former Red Mickey Thomas who I grabbed a word with on arrival in Germany. Everyone is feeling very confident about tomorrow's game, but Patrice Evra insists the Reds are not getting ahead of themselves. "We remember what happened to us against a German team last season," he says in today's papers in reference to the
defeat to Bayern Munich. "I have a lot of respect for Schalke - you can never presume anything." Very true Pat.
14:46 I spoke to Manchester Evening News correspondent Stuart Mathieson at Manchester Airport earlier and he's confident United will come away with a positive result tomorrow night. I'll upload the video very shortly.
14:40 As always on European aways, I'll bring you all the news from Sir Alex's pre-match press conference including any updates on squad fitness - we're guessing that Berbatov is still struggling with the groin strain which ruled him out of the Everton game. Edwin van der Sar will be joining the boss to address the media at the Veltins Arena around 18:00 local time with the team training at the stadium straight after.
14:10 You can tell it's a bank holiday here in Germany as well as in the UK - there's hardly anyone around. We're all checked in at our hotel with the players having a late lunch before heading to their rooms for a rest before training later.
13:07 The answer to my question was 3-1 against Wolfsburg and you can see the goals by clicking on the link on the left-hand side.

13:00 Greetings from sunny Deutschland. We've just touched down at Dortmund Airport and are about to jump on the coach to the team base. Even though the Veltins Arena is in Gelsenkirchen we'll be staying in the nearby city of Essen, located on the River Ruhr. Essen is apparently the ninth-largest city in Germany and was the European Capital of Culture on behalf of the whole Ruhr area in 2010. See, I'm a mine of information!
10:22 Oh and here's a little quiz question for you - when was United's last win on German soil and what was the score? See you on the other side.
10:20 We're due to take off any minute. I'll be back in touch when we land in Germany. In the meantime, why not check out the recent Gimme 5 video in the left-hand menu which features five of United's most memorable goals from European semi-final ties.
09:40 As promised, here's the travelling party - there's no Dimitar Berbatov, Darren Fletcher, Owen Hargreaves or Bebe. Edwin van der Sar, Tomasz Kuszczak; Patrice Evra, Wes Brown, Chris Smalling, Rio Ferdinand, John O'Shea, Jonny Evans, Nemanja Vidic, Fabio, Rafael; Anderson, Ryan Giggs, Ji-sung Park, Michael Carrick, Nani, Paul Scholes, Antonio Valencia, Gabriel Obertan, Darron Gibson; Michael Owen, Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez.
09:16 Gabriel Obertan is the first player to check in and they're starting to filter through now - Ryan Giggs, Michael Owen, Nani and Paul Scholes are also here and we'll have the full travelling squad soon.
08:40 I'm at the airport and the manager is the first to check-in, as usual he's bright and early! A few fans are gathered waiting to see the players and former full-back Denis Irwin has just arrived as well.
08:30 Right, my taxi has arrived. I'll be back in touch when I get to the airport with news of the travelling squad. Oh, and for those who know the story, my lucky scarf is packed!

08:20 Sir Alex has virtually a fully-fit squad to take to Germany with him. Only Owen Hargreaves and Darren Fletcher are likely to stay behind, while we're yet to receive news on John O'Shea after he appeared to pick up an injury in the win over Everton on Saturday. Otherwise, we think everyone else is fit.

08:15 I can't believe we're at the last four stage already - the time seems to have gone so quickly since the start of the knock-out rounds back in February. The Reds have successfully navigated their way past Olympique Marseille and Chelsea since then and now face a Schalke side who are unbeaten at home in the Champions League this season. In fact they've won every European match at the Veltins Arena, but Raul and co. will be up against a United side who are yet to concede on their travels this term having recorded four wins and a draw.

08:00 Guten Tag all. Well, I'm not quite in Germany yet, but I'm heading to the airport very shortly to meet up with the team ahead of the Champions League semi-final first leg against FC Schalke 04 - our first-ever encouter with the Bundesliga side. Just off to finish my packing.

Sir Alex's European vow

Sir Alex Ferguson has paid tribute to his team's experience - but feels Manchester United should always aim to be participating in the last four of the Champions League.
United, striving to take over domestically as England's most-successful club if the Reds can win a record 19th title, are also eyeing European rivals when it comes to winning trophies.
Sir Alex admits he is jealous of clubs like AC Milan, Ajax and Real Madrid's record in the competition but is pleased to have so many players fit and available for the tough semi-final trip to Schalke.
"The present group have a lot of experience in Europe now. The semi-finals is where we should be, you get envious of other clubs with great records in Europe.
"We're trying to get parity with the likes of Real Madrid."
England internationals Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney will be key figures for the Reds in the away leg at the Veltins-Arena after playing in the stadium during the World Cup defeat to Portugal on penalties in 2006.

Schalke v United

United travel to Germany striving to clinch a dream final against Real Madrid or Barcelona at Wembley...
Form Guide
United left it late but got the job done against Everton thanks to Javier Hernandez's winner. The Reds made it three consecutive clean sheets in the league and haven't lost since the 3-1 reverse at Liverpool on March 6. Of course, Sir Alex's side have still to concede a goal on the road in this season's Champions League. Schalke are 10th in the Bundesliga after a home defeat when fielding a shadow side against Kaiserslautern at the weekend. The Miners' form has been inconsistent but they've won all their home games in this competition this term.
Ins and outs
Dimitar Berbatov is out with a groin problem, joining Darren Fletcher and Owen Hargreaves on the sidelines. Everybody else is available, including John O'Shea who limped off against Everton. Schalke's Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is definitely unavailable due to a knee injury but promising defender Benedikt Howedes is fit again and the players rested for the weekend are all fresh.
Last meeting
The two teams have never played before in European competition.
Top man
Manuel Neuer is an outstanding goalkeeper, tipped to become the best in the world. Although some felt he was destined to replace Edwin van der Sar at United, the Germany international looks poised to join Bayern Munich after declaring his intention to quit the Veltins-Arena. The timing of the announcement could have been better but this is the perfect opportunity to showcase his talents.

Boss expects rollercoaster ride

Sir Alex Ferguson expects an emotional roller coaster as United face Schalke for the right to play in the 2011 Champions League final.
The Reds boss has experienced numerous last-four encounters since taking over at Old Trafford but still feels the pressure ahead of such huge encounters.
"Any semi-final you go into, you know it will be tough," said Sir Alex. "It's not easy for either side but we hope we can progress.
"You're always apprehensive at this stage of the competition. We had this when we've played semis in the past - Juve in 99, Barca in 2008. The second leg, the last 20 minutes at Old Trafford, was agony.
"You go through the gamut of emotions in semi-finals because they're never easy."
Schalke certainly impressed the boss when he flew to Germany to watch their second leg success against Inter Milan.
"Schalke never looked like losing against Inter," he explained. "That's quite a credit to them when you consider the experienced side they were up against. They were in control and made a good impression on me when I was here.
"Germans have a self-determination. It's reflected in how the German people approach all sports. There's similarity with the English and Scottish!"

WAYNE ROONEY has called Javier Hernadez the "buy of the century".
Hernandez cost Manchester United just £7million — but has already delivered a staggering haul of 19 goals.
Chicarito's latest came in United's 1-0 win over Everton at the weekend.
And striker partner Rooney tweeted: "Great result for us today. Love playing with Hernandez. Buy of the century. Great lad too."
United defender Rio Ferdinand has also been blown away by the Mexican hotshot.
He added: "Hernandez aka Lil Pea is the real deal....what a debut season in the Premier League!"
