It's OFFICIAL, HENDO AMEANGUKA
Liverpool have confirmed that midfielder Jordan Henderson has signed a new contract with the club.
The England international has signed what the club describe as a "long-term" contract, worth a reported £100,000 per week.
"I'm over the moon that it's finally done," he told the club's official website.
"There has been talk about it for a while now. It's brilliant news for me to commit my future to this football club - I really feel that it's a good time for us to look forward to the future, with the squad we've got, the manager, the size of the club and the fans we've got. I really think, over the next few years, we can challenge and start winning trophies.
"The fact he has made such a long-term commitment to Liverpool is a sign of his belief in what we are looking to do here," said Rodgers. "He will have a crucial role to play as we look to take this side forward and look to add success to the progress we have made.
"I am very excited about our future and what this group can achieve together; today's announcement is another important positive step forward.
"The owners are committed to creating a team that can grow, improve and ultimately win together. We have seen some very important contract renewals this season and I'm confident, under Ian Ayre's stewardship, we will see further commitments made and more exciting talent secured and added to our squad."
Chief executive Ian Ayre said of Henderson's contract: "This, other renewals and further additions in the summer are all part of moving the club forward. Jordan's focus was always on remaining at Liverpool and he never wavered in his commitment to Liverpool throughout the process.
"With contract negotiations it is the outcome that matters and not the timing - and we had excellent dialogue with Jordan and his representative. We have secured an outcome that is positive for both the player and club.
"As a club we are committed to investing in the team and our manager and a crucial part of that commitment is retaining the talent we currently have and making sure they grow, develop and achieve success with us, here at Liverpool."

Tunataka owners wanaoweza kumleta Diego Simeone pale Anfield at ANY freaking cost. Hizi si ndoto za alinacha kwa sababu najua inawezekana! Especially this season ambapo Diego yuko likely kumaliza msimu trophylessly....atakuwa yuko very vulnerable and he'll be longing for some fresh air am sure!

Brendan Rodgers press conference
West Brom v Liverpool, Saturday, 15:00 BST
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is next up and he starts by welcoming the new five-year contract for Jordan Henderson (12:01 entry).
"We're delighted. It's great news for the club and for Jordan that he's going to spend best part of his career here," he says.
"The likes of Jordan and Raheem [Sterling] are very important players. The club are working very hard behind scenes to sign them up."
Asked about outgoing Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp being linked with Liverpool, Rodgers said: "When you are at a club like Liverpool, there will be lots of names mentioned. It goes with being at a big club."
Following last weekend's FA Cup semi-final defeat by Aston Villa, Rodgers says his team will fight for a top-four finish until the end of the season.
"If you take the emotion out of last weekend, this is a team who over achieved last season. It had a world-class striker and nearly won title," he adds.
"We want to finish the season strong and take that momentum into the following season. If other clubs make mistakes then we have to ensure we're ready to take advantage."
More from Brendan Rodgers on his own future, as he prepares to become the first Liverpool boss since the 1950s to complete three seasons in charge without winning a trophy.
"I don't think there's anyone better (to manage Liverpool). I have a strong relationship with the owners," he says.
"We will always strive to be the best. The reality is we want to be winners. I'm even more motivated to make sure we progress."
He confirms that striker Daniel Sturridge will not be available to face West Brom at The Hawthorns.
