Lakini kwenye senior postion kuanzia u manager wengi sio Watanzania wengi ni kutoka South Africa, India, na kenya

kwenye sekta ya hospitality industry kuna msemo, Hoteli ni jumba tu. Kinachotofautisha hoteli moja na nyingine ni huduma.

Kempinski Hotels zimeanza mwaka 1897, mpaka sasa wana mahoteli 62, na mengine 43 yakiwa kwenye hatua za mwisho kujengwa/kufanyiwa ukarabati kabla ya kufunguliwa rasmi. Sheraton Hotels zimeanza mwaka 1937, nao wana rundo la mahoteli duniani. Hyatt Group of Hotels, walianza biashara ya mahoteli mwaka 1957!...nao wana properties zaidi ya 450 duniani kote. Hivyo hivyo kwa makampuni kama Royal Palm, Movenpick etc..

Kusema Kilimanjaro Hotel angepewa mheshimiwa Mengi aiendeshe mimi bado nakwazika mlikusudia awe Ni mwenye jumba tu kisha aalike hawa waendesha mahoteli waendeshe, au mlitaka nae ajaribu biashara hii. Kama ni kujaribu, nadhani serikali walitumia busara kumkatalia Ombi lake. Asingeweza! Kama alikuwa anunue tu jengo kisha akodishe jumba wenye utaalamu na sekta ya hospitality waiendeshe hapo nakubali labda wangemfikiria na yeye. All in all, naamini it's a smart move kwa mmiliki wa jengo la Kilimanjaro kuingia ubia na kampuni ya Hyatt...

Tutarajie jina la Kilimanjaro Hotel Dar es salaam kusikika zaidi USA.

Tukirudi kwenye management, lol...hapa jamani kuwasimanga wageni kushikilia post muhimu ni sawa na kukuukataa ukweli tuna mapungufu makubwa kuanzia kwenye lugha, mpaka discipline ya kazi. Tutake tusitake hilo ni tatizo na janga la kitaifa. Hapo awali nilitoa mifano ya mahoteli ya TTC yalivyokuwa yakiendeshwa na TTC mwishowe yakaanza kupukutika moja baada ya jingine. Wakati huo 'wataalamu' wazalendo ndio waliokuwa wakiongoza hayo mahoteli. Matokeo yake undugunaizesheni ukashamiri, watu wakawa wanaoneana haya kuchukuliana hatua, huduma zikawa mbaya, wageni walipokosekana, income nayo ikatoweka...tukabakiwa na majumba matupu!

Nitawatolea mifano michache toka kwenye blogs za wasafiri wanazungumziaje huduma za hotels Tanzania, hususan hiyo Kempinski Dar es salaam.

Being a regular traveller, you come to realize that at times a perfect storm or factors can turn a good trip to a lousy one in a quick 10mins. Perhaps this is the case with the Kempinski but I've felt strongly enough about the service I got at the Kempinski to write my first review.

At check in all guests were asked to pay for nights immediately and not settle at check out. We were not even given the opportunity to have a hold held on the credit cards until you ASKED. This created the sense that I was negotiating my stay at the hotel. For what was advertised as the premium business hotel in Dar, this is surprising as it is disappointing.

Having come off a very bumpy ferry trip, my fiancé and I were not well enough to leave the hotel the night of our stay. We came to the breakfast lounge at 10.30am, which is the cut off. Without offering me the opportunity to explain, the staff rudely told me that breakfast was 'closed' and they would 'help me' if I hurried through my breakfast. Never in all my travels has a hotel been so dismissive over something as small (to the hotel) as breakfast.

Again at checkout, donations to charitable organizations were put on my bill without my prior consent. Only after I asked was I told it was optional.

The food and beverages manager was kind enough to arrange alternate breakfast for us. But the supervisor and the staff talked over us in swahili (in what I can only assume were unflattering tones).

Disappointing a few individuals ruined our otherwise okay stay at the hotel. I expect Kempinski is a big enough brand to not be bothered about small things like this. But because of my experience on this personal trip with my fiancé I will not be considering the Dar Kempinski for the next business conference I host in East Africa.

Hotel amenities are nice, but the management needs to put lots of efforts in personnel training. Around 6am (not a busy time for the hotel staff) the water started dropping from the ceiling in the bathroom -I called reception several times asking them to send someone to deal with the situation. 40 minutes later with noone to be seen around, I had to go to the reception and only after I demanded to call the general manager, the reception officer called the duty manager (was very hard to find him, by the way) who started to deal with the situation. Reception staff was completely ignorant, preferring to talk to someone on the phone non stop instead of helping a guest standing in front of them. Duty manager was nowhere to be seen around and did not answer the phone calls- it took about 10 minutes to finally find him. Why the hotel needs a duty manager who is nowhere to be seen when the guests need him?

To make things worse, I never heard a word "sorry" from the hotel staff - only when I said that it's normal to say such words in other hotels when the guests are experiencing troubles due to the hotel's problems, the duty manager managed to say "sorry" just once. They tried to move me to a room which smelled like a garbage dump site and, finally, around 7 am (1 hour after I started complaining about the water leakage) I arrived to a new room which did not smell.

One more thing - the reception officer even started to argue with me when I was explaining the situation to the duty manager when he finally arrived - looks like customer service and hospitality are the areas where the staff needs lots of training.

I've got an impression that hotel management does not really care about wellbeing of their guests and does not seem to be interested in what the guest think about the services. In any other 5 star hotel in the world, a conflict with the guest which lasts for almost one hour would result in general manager being woken up to take care of the sitution - not in this hotel. In any other 5 start hotel a dissapointed guest would hear dozens of "sorry" - not in this hotel.

...kwenye sekta ya hospitality and Tourism kuna msemo, ukimuudhi mgeni mmoja malalamiko yake yanaathiri maamuzi ya wageni wengine kumi waliokusudia kuja kutembea. Sasa hizi Comments zinakuwa posted kila siku kwenye mitandao mbali mbali duniani,...unadhani athari zake zimesambaa kiasi gani?

Acha tuwe na management wa kigeni, taratizu wazalendo nao watajitahidi kuboresha ubora wa huduma, kinyume na hapo wageni wote watakimbilia Kenya kama miaka ile, tubakiwe na magofu yetu

BTW - Mbu wageni wengi wanalalamika kwamba ma-chef wa Tanzania hawajui kutengeneza omelette.
 
BTW Kempinski wana mpango wa kujenga hoteli Zanzibar (ndo lile sakata walilomzidi jengo la Mambo Msiige Aga khan na Serena Hotels) na pia kuna plot nyuma ya Kilimanjaro Kempinski inatakwa kujengwa jengo la ghoofa 20 sasa sina uhakika kama wajenzi ni ASB Tanzania Ltd au ni Kempinski wenyewe? pia hotel 77 Arusha sina uhakika kama ni ASB Tanzania Ltd au Kempinski wenyewe! halafu Hotel Agip ipo njiani kubomolewa na kujengwa hotel ya vyumba 250 sina uhakika ni hotel gani inahusika!

Hii ni njia nyingine ya kukwepa kulipa kodi. Kampuni hiyo ya ASB inamilikiwa na yule yule Mwarabu anayemiliki Kempiski hivi sasa. Sidhani kwamba ameiuza kwa kampuni nyingine ni mabadilishano tu katika makaratasi na sisi tulivyo mbumbumbu tutawapa miaka mingine mitano ya likizo ya kodi.

Kwa biashara ya mahaoteli hili ni jambo la kawaida saana kwakuwa wabongo hatuko so used na haya mambo ndo maana tunaona ni kitu cha ajabu,, swala la kodi ni kweli serekali ilikuwa inatoa vivutio kwa wawekezaji ila nadhani kwa sasa wameondoa baadhi ya hivyo vivutuo.

Kwa hiyo utasema hii mikataba ya miaka mitano mitano kwa hizi franchises ni ya kawaida accross the world? Kwa nini isiwe miaka minne au sita? Kwa nini kila kampuni nyingine iki take over mkataba unakuwa ni wa miaka mitano?

The change to Hyatt confirmed reports that Hyatt, global hospitality company has taken over managing the Kilimanjaro Hotel.

This means it is not merely a change of name. This means a new investor is doing business in Tanzania and will be entitled to apply for a five year tax exemption. And unless this law changes, we will see another franchise in the next five years for ten years if the tax exemption is extended to ten years as suggested in parliament by a minister.

The amount of money Tanzania gives away in tax exemptions has always been substantial but has increased rapidly in the middle of this decade. At its peak growth, tax exemptions almost doubled in one year, rising from TZS 459 billion in 2004/05 to TZS 772 billion in 2005/06. In 2009/10 tax exemptions amounted to TZS 695 billion. This amount is more than half the TZS 1.3 trillion the Government planned to borrow from commercial sources for infrastructure financing in 2010/11. Had it been collected, it would have provided 40 percent more resources for education or 72 percent more resources for health in 2009/10

2. Tanzania grants more tax exemptions compared to its neighbours

The level of tax exemptions in Tanzania is high. This can be seen by comparing the level of exemptions granted in Tanzania with that in Uganda and Kenya. In Tanzania, between 2005/6 and 2007/08 tax exemptions averaged 3.9 percent of GDP. In 2008/9 tax exemptions were 2.8 percent of GDP and in 2009/10, 2.3 percent. In comparison, in Kenya and Uganda exemptions amounted to 1 percent and 0.4 percent of GDP respectively. If Tanzania would harmonize its tax exemptions with the level achieved in Kenya, more than TZS 600 billion would have been saved in 2007/08 alone.

3. Under President Kikwete exemptions have grown rapidly

A significant growth in tax exemptions occurred in the last five years. During President Kikwete's five year term (2006-2010), tax exemptions were about 1 percent of GDP (or 40 percent) higher than during President Mkapa's second five year term (2001-2005).

4. Large, multi-national investors receive most exemptions

TRA revenue reports show that a wide range of items and organizations are tax exempt. Three groups gain most of the exemptions. These are companies with certificates of incentives provided under the Tanzanian Investment Act and Zanzibar Investment Promotion Act; recipients of Value Added Tax exemptions under Cap. 220, 223 and 224; and mining companies under the Mining Act. At the bottom of the list of beneficiaries are purchases made at duty free shops and import related exemptions granted to religious institutions. Most of the exemptions granted through the investment promotion agencies, as well as those granted to mining companies accrue to multinational companies.

5. Exemptions on imported goods constitute 75% of all exemptions

Exemptions processed by the TRA fall into two main categories: exemptions on customs related taxes (import duty and excise taxes) and exemptions under the Value Added Tax (VAT) codes. In the last two years, import taxes and excises on imports have constituted the bulk of tax exemptions. On the other hand, VAT and tax exemptions permitted by way of purchases from duty free shops together made up 25 percent of all the exemptions granted in the last two years.

6. Reducing exemptions would reduce dependence on aid

One reason Tanzania continues to rely heavily on foreign aid is because it fails to raise sufficient revenue. However, by comparing amounts of exemptions granted each year with grants received to fill the resource gap in the budget, it is evident that dependence on aid could be reduced
significantly if exemptions were granted more prudently.

Hii ni njia nyingine ya kukwepa kulipa kodi. Kampuni hiyo ya ASB inamilikiwa na yule yule Mwarabu anayemiliki Kempiski hivi sasa. Sidhani kwamba ameiuza kwa kampuni nyingine ni mabadilishano tu katika makaratasi na sisi tulivyo mbumbumbu tutawapa miaka mingine mitano ya likizo ya kodi.

Kuna kasumba moja ambayo inachangiwa na baadhi ýa watendaji wa serekali wenye njaa, ndio wameifanya TZ imekuwa banana republic.
