Schurrle has made four starts in
the Premier League this season
for unbeaten Chelsea, and a
further four appearances from
the bench.
The paper write that Schurrle is a
lead contender to be sold, with
Chelsea reportedly having to sell
before buying.
There are clear reasons however
why the 24-year-old should be
kept by the Blues, even if he is
not at present commanding a
first team spot on a regular basis.
World Cup hangover
One of the reasons Schurrle has
not hit top form so far this
season, is due to the fact he
rushed back after the World Cup.
He had just a two week break in
the summer, and no pre-season
to speak of, and judging him on
a run of games in which he has
been in and out of the side does
not give a fair view of his talent;
even last season he was used too
inconsistently.

Pedigree
Schurrle's international
achievements should say it all. He
is a World Cup winner, and was
key in Germany winning the
tournament with a number of
impact appearances off the
bench. This included an assist in
the final against Argentina which
won the game.
Value for money
Schurrle cost Chelsea £17 million,
and if they were to sell him they
may only fetch around £25
million. For that money, would
they sign a player as talented, or
who is as ready to step into
attack? The German's versatility
allows him to play across the
front line, he is already adjusted
to the Premier League, and as
Mohammed Salah's troubles have
shown, a new addition is no
guarantee to succeed.
Professionalism
Despite being in and out of the
side, Schurrle remains the
ultimate professional, and does
not kick up a fuss at being on the
bench and create problems for
Mourinho. With football a squad
game, and Chelsea competing on
multiple fronts, selfless players
like Schurrle are essential to
helping the club succeeding, able
to contribute real quality when
they get opportunities.

Alternatives
There are other ways for Chelsea
to raise money if they need to.
Firstly they can look at selling off
loan stars they do not want like
Fernando Torres, and even
writing off Marco van Ginkel.
Alternately they can try to ship
out Jon Obi Mikel finally, or even
axe the aforementioned Salah.

Chelsea will announce a record
annual profit of around
£20million — paving the way
for Jose Mourinho to further
strengthen his squad in
January.
The current Premier League
leaders will report a turnover of
£325m for the year up to June
30, and will comfortably pass
UEFA’s Financial Fair Play (FFP)
test thanks to the funds
brought in by the sale of Juan
Mata and David Luiz, plus their
share of the new £1bn
television deal.
The financial results are further
proof of Chelsea’s emergence as
British football’s leading club on
and off the pitch, confounding
the belief that years of wild
spending under Roman
Abramovich would backfire.
 
Chelsea involvement in the
current round of senior
international fixtures began
today (Wednesday) in Istanbul
where Brazil took on Turkey
with Willian among the goals.
He, along with Filipe Luis and
Oscar, all started the friendly
international with the South
Americans racing into a 3-0
lead by half-time. Neymar
opened the scoring, followed
by an own-goal from full-back
Semih Kaya after Willian had
laid the ball for Danilo to cross.
Willian’s goal came a minute
before the break when the ball
found his well-timed run
following a Neymar attack, and
the same two were involved in
the final goal in the 4-0 win on
the hour, playing a one-two
for Neymar to score his
second.
There was plenty of attacking
involvement too for Oscar who
had several shots saved before
being substituted with 73
minutes played. Willian’s
starting role ended with his
substitution four minutes
later. Ramires was not in the
squad having only recently
returned from injury.
Belgium were also victorious
in a friendly international,
theirs at home to Iceland.
Thibaut Courtois played the
whole of a 3-1 win with Eden
Hazard coming off at half-time
with the score 1-1. Former
Blue Romelu Lukaku was a
scorer having come on at the
interval.
At Under-21 level, Charly
Musonda had a debut to
remember for Belgium when
they won 4-1 away to Spain

In my previous report on Chelsea
FC’s start to the 2014/15 season,
I had written about the excellent
performances of Cesc Fabregas
and Diego Costa as being the key
to Chelsea’s early season success.
Come November, a typically poor
time for the Blues, that still
remains true. Despite missing
games with his hamstring
problems and illness, Diego Costa
has banged in 10 goals in his
first 9 matches for the club,
including the game winner last
weekend at Anfield.
The forward has been prolific,
and truly looks to be the star
striker Chelsea has needed since
the Champions League winning
season of 2011/12. His link up
play with fellow Spanish
international Fabregas has
continued to be excellent, and
moreover Costa has been
working hard all over the pitch
for Chelsea.
In the Champions League the
Blues have been inconsistent.
They trounced NK Maribor 6-0 at
home, then drew 1-1 away. They
are in a good position to qualify
for the next round, but the
matches away to Schalke and the
final group stage match at
Stamford Bridge against Sporting
Lisbon could still provide some
trouble.
Chelsea sit on top of the Premier
League four points clear of
surprising 2nd place
Southampton and eight points
clear of Manchester City, the team
most likely to compete with
Chelsea for the league. This gap
is beneficial to Chelsea’s title
chances, especially considering
away matches to United, City,
Liverpool and Everton are already
done.

hoping he can keep the injuries
limited and help lead them to the
title. However, Nemanja Matic
gets a good shout as well, his
play in central midfield has been
stellar, operating as a midfield
‘destroyer’ to compliment
Fabregas’ attacking prowess.
Most Improved Player: Oscar. The
23-year-old Brazilian has shaken
off a disappointing end to last
season and even more
disappointing end to his World
Cup campaign to be a star for
Chelsea. His strong performances
have earned himself a new five-
year contract at Stamford Bridge.
Injury News: The Blues have had
a few injuries this season,
notably to Costa. The Spaniard
has missed a couple games due
to injury, but seemed healthy
against Liverpool. Fabregas also
played at Anfield with a
hamstring injury, but thankfully
both will get the international
break to heal after being
withdrawn from the Spanish
squad.
Positions to be addressed in the
transfer market: Personally I
don’t see any grave concerns
that need to be addressed in the
window. I believe Chelsea did
some excellent business in the
summer transfer market, and
that this is the team to deliver a
title to Stamford Bridge.
Managerial Grade: A-. Jose
Mourinho has been his usual self,
injecting emotion into his team
and adjusting to poor
performances. He’s still arguably
the best manager in world
soccer.
Weaknesses: There are still
occasional defensive lapses that
annoy supporters and risk
dropping points. Against United
and City away, specifically, the
Blues left four extra points in
Manchester (although the referee
in the United match didn’t help
the matter).
Rating: 4/5 stars. Had the Blues
killed off either the Manchester
City match at the Etihad with a
man advantage, or the United
match at Old Trafford I would
have given the team 4.5 out of 5.
The draw away to Maribor brings
Chelsea down half a point as well,
in my mind. Yet overall, the Blues
look to be the best team England
