Sarri on first training session after Spurs: "I talked to them player-by-
player. I had a meeting of 5-10 minutes with each player. Individual
meetings. As I said before, we only lost our first match. We have to
understand why, especially from the mental point of view"

Sarri says Chelsea played "without determination in such an
important match." He said that his players may be de-motivated for
some reason and are lacking in targets. "My target is to win
something and in the long run become the best team in Europe."

Sarri on #CFC mental issues: "The problem with the last 3 matches
was our approach to the matches. If you went to the pitch with that
approach and there's a strong opponent like Tottenham, the problem
is bigger, I think. They were able to destroy us in the 1st 15 mins."

Sarri on what came from his meetings with the players: "It is very
difficult for them to tell me the problem. One player said it was the
international break." He then adds, "It is true only for a small
percentage of players"

Sarri on Hazard decline: "I am worried because 25 days ago he had a
back injury, now the ankle. So I think he has lost a lot of training. So
at the moment it is normal that he is not at the top of his physical
condition, he needs a week of training and a couple of matches"

Sarri on Hazard: "I think he can't play 10 matches in 30 days,
sometimes he needs to rest."

Sarri on Premier League title chase: "The points average of Man City
could see them get more than 100, I think, so it is difficult for us to
keep up. I think at the moment we shouldn't look at the table. First
of all, our target is to be in the top 4."

Sarri on Hudson-Odoi: "He has to improve, he has to improve a lot.
First of all, in the defensive phase. He has to work a lot. He has to
improve in the offensive phase. He is very good one-v-one but he
needs to improve without the ball. He needs to study, improve and
work"

Sarri on Hudson-Odoi: "I want to find space for him but it is not easy
because we have 28 players. It is not easy because we have to put
on the bench Moses or Pedro. It is not easy but I will try to find
space for him. He is in the 18 players for the match"

Giroud on squad reaction to Spurs defeat: "It was a very
disappointing result. The manager was not happy at all with our
performance. We just want to take the defeat. It was our first defeat
but it was hard to accept it."

Giroud: "I don't think it was only a lack of determination, Tottenham
started on the front foot much more than us. You can't concede
twice in the first 15 mins. We tried to play with the ball but it is not
the Chelsea you are used to seeing from the start of the season"

Giroud on 3-1 loss to Spurs: "I don't want to find excuses but we
know that it is the hardest games straight after the international
break. We don't want to hide behind it. We want to be responsible
and we have been working on what went wrong

Giroud on reaction in training to Spurs loss: "I am not happy to lose
this kind of game. Tottenham are an opponent to the title race.
When you lose, you are not proud of your performance. It is normal
to be angry."

Giroud on understanding Sarri: "I think we understand his philosophy
and how he wants us to play on the pitch. Basically, it is about
following the ball, pressing high, being compact, but we didn't do it
against Spurs. So we have to come back to these principles."

Giroud on Spurs loss: "We were not mentally ready to play this kind
of game. I don't know [why]. If I had the answer maybe I could be in
Sarri's staff."

Giroud on three goals in four matches: "As a striker, it is always nice
for confidence to score. I am not happy with the result but it is nice
to come on the pitch and be efficient. I had different preparation
because I came back [from France] after many in the team"

Giroud says he was due to start against Spurs but Sarri changed his
mind to Morata because the France striker was back later from
international duty.

Giroud on fighting for starts at Chelsea: "It is quite tough for me in
these past few weeks. I am a competitor and I want to be on the
pitch to reach our targets and give my best. It is a big club with
another good striker so the competition is quite fair.

Giroud: "I think N'Golo can play every single position in midfield. Our
manager wants to play Jorginho or Cesc in holding midfield, so
maybe in his mind N'Golo is more efficient box to box. He can carry
the ball, find passes between the lines, & we know how fast he is"
