OFFICIAL: Maurizio Sarri is the new Chelsea head coach. He moves to Stamford Bridge following a successful three-year spell at Serie A side Napoli. [HASHTAG]#CFC[/HASHTAG]

Sarri's CV is truly incomparable to any of Abramovich's 13 previous managers. For 10 years he split his time between coaching amateur teams in Italy and working for Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, the world's oldest bank.

It wasn't until 2000 when he took over Tegoleto that Sarri quit his bank job and turned to coaching full time. What followed was a gradual rise through the Italian football pyramid from sixth-tier Sangiovannese all the way to Serie B with Pescara and eventually Empoli.

From 2003 until 2012, Sarri coached 10 clubs in nine years. As the man himself explained: 'The coach is like a fish, after a while he stinks.' One of those stops was at Serie C Arezzo where he replaced Conte, who was in his first managerial role.

Sarri has just four seasons of top-flight experience on his CV during his 28 years of coaching

Maurizio Sarri is the new Chelsea head coach. He moves to Stamford Bridge following a successful three-year spell at Serie A side Napoli.
During his time there, the Italian, who is 59, revitalised the fortunes of the club and returned them to the Champions League while playing a scintillating brand of expansive, attacking football.

In his three years at the helm, Napoli recorded two second-place finishes in their domestic league, including last season when they achieved a record points total for a runner-up, and one third place. In 2017, he won the Serie A Coach of the Year award.

Sarri, who has signed a three-year contract, said: ‘I am very happy to be coming to Chelsea and the Premier League. It is an exciting new period in my career.

‘I look forward to starting work and meeting the players on Monday ahead of travelling to Australia, where I will be able to get to know the squad and begin our match action.

‘I hope we can provide some entertaining football for our fans, and that we will be competing for trophies at the end of the season, which is what this club deserves.’

Director Marina Granovskaia added: ‘We are delighted to welcome Maurizio and are looking forward to him bringing his football philosophy to Chelsea.
‘Maurizio’s Napoli side played some of the most exciting football in Europe, impressing with their attacking approach and dynamism, and his coaching methods significantly improved the players at his disposal.

‘He has plenty of experience in Serie A and the Champions League and we know he is relishing the chance to work in the Premier League.’

The football played by Napoli this season has been out of this world. He did very well, seeing Napoli play is a spectacle,' Guardiola later told RMC Sport. 'If he comes to the Premier League it'd be a pleasure to face him.' You've got your wish, Pep.

His unusual route into management means Sarri coaches with a freedom and greater emphasis on entertaining. 'If I saw my team defending and counter-attacking after 30 minutes I would get up and return to the bank because I would not be having fun,' he quipped after facing the pragmatic Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid.

*His training ground demands*

Sarri's system is demanding and requires each of his 11 players to know exactly what they are doing at all times and in all situations. From goalkeeper to striker, every player is given detailed tactical instructions to ensure they fit the formation.

That requires a lot of work to implement and Sarri works rigorously and exhaustively on the training ground with his squad to ensure they adopt his methods.

Sarri began flying drones over his own training sessions during his spell at Empoli to allow greater analysis and his attention to detail has become notorious. His drills at Napoli's Castel Volutrno centre included full 11-a-side matches played in one half of the pitch to increase his team's ability to retain possession in tight spaces.

At Sansovino, he had his players work on 33 different set-piece routines on the training ground, an extraordinary depth of preparation that earned him the nickname 'Mister 33'. The club were in the sixth tier at the time.

He is also infamously superstitious. At Napoli he switched between training pitches every day until a winning run came to an end and would drink espressos at set intervals as he oversaw sessions.

In Conte's case, the two parties were in disagreement over how the £9m compensation package his contract entitled him to would be distributed, with the manager holding out for a lump sum and the club angling for it to paid in several instalments.

It is understood that the club eventually yielded to the former Italy manager's demands, provided he doesn't enrol in a new job for the rest of his nominal contractual period.

*Jorginho has followed Maurizio Sarri from Napoli to Chelsea and in doing so becomes our first signing of the summer.*

He has signed a five-year contract and will wear the no.5 shirt.

Jorginho said: ‘I am absolutely ecstatic to be here at Chelsea. It is not easy to become part of such a big team so I am very, very happy. I am excited to play in such an intense league, for a team that gives everything to play and win.’

Club director Marina Granovskaia added: ‘We are delighted Jorginho has chosen to join Chelsea. He was one of the most coveted midfielders in Europe and will become an important member of the playing squad. He has demonstrated his quality working under Maurizio Sarri and we are convinced his signing will help bring further success to Stamford Bridge.’

From his position as a deep-lying playmaker in a midfield trio, Jorginho was a vital cog in Sarri’s Napoli. The 26-year-old is a highly technical footballer capable of dictating the tempo of play in possession with quick passing and movement.

In Naples, his ability to link defence and attack stood out. Indeed, in Europe’s big five leagues last season, no player had more touches of the ball per minute than Jorginho.

Alongside his technical qualities, he is a combative player willing to put his foot in to regain possession, and his positioning without the ball further aids his effectiveness in front of the defence.

Jorginho is the perfect fit for Sarri’s high-tempo, possession-based style of play and he will look to continue from where he left off in Italy, the country for whom he has eight caps at international level.
