Courtois on battle with United’s De Gea for Golden Glove: The most important is team result, individual trophy is secondary
4 hours ago Standard
With both back in action on Wednesday, the current tally stands at 14-12 in De Gea's favour and Courtois won't like it one bit.
"I won't search to do the eye-catching saves if I don't need to. I try to bring calm to the game for the other players. I play from the back, I handle crosses as well, which is an underrated skill I think.
"With my height/length, some of my saves may look easier than they are, that some other keepers wouldn't save them.
"I can catch shots with both hands and not have to make the wonderful eye-catching save for the camera (that others do). I don't care about that.
"In games like against Stoke and Brighton (at home) this season, I had to stay focused, perhaps making just one key save. I don't go looking for danger to make the big stop for people to talk about. I just try to do my job.
"Obviously you watch what the other keepers are doing. This is a competition and you look to see if they have kept a clean sheet or not.
"But winning the Golden Glove is a good thing to achieve as a team, not just for me. As a team, we had a poor start defensively and Manchester United were keeping a lot of clean sheets.
"If they had kept that up, it would have been hard to catch them. But we have defended well lately (now equal with United for least goals conceded on 16) but the most important thing is to win."
