Mahrez backed to improve Chelsea

4 hours ago Sky Sports

Former Gunner Ray Parlour believes the Algerian should look to move to a top six club
Parlour: I am surprised he’s still there. Because he’s been superb, he really has. He had that run where he didn’t play well and now he’s got back to his best. This is the Mahrez that won them the league, him and [Jamie] Vardy.

''Mahrez would fit into a lot of sides. I know my old club was mentioned, Arsenal, but that’s the sort of side he’s got to look at now, he’s got to look at the top six. I’m sure he’d improve quite a few, someone like Chelsea, who knows.''

Emerson Palmieri Move Is Still on as Roma Reportedly Pull the Plug on Edin Dzeko's Move to Chelsea

Roma have reportedly backed out of the deal to sell striker Edin Dzeko to Chelsea, but full back Emerson Palmieri's move is still on, according to reports in Italy.

The 31-year old's proposed switch to Stamford Bridge has stalled over the last few days, with reports suggesting the Bosnian international wishes to stay in the Italian capital.

As reported by Football Italia, Italian news outlet Il Messaggero are reporting that Roma now plan to keep Dzeko, despite the Blues wilingness to attempt to conclude a deal.

News of Dzeko's move breaking down seemingly will not impact Chelsea's attempts to sign left back Emerson Palmieri though. The report suggests that a fee of €24m plus €5m in bonuses could be agreed for the 23-year old, who has played just a single Serie A game this season after recovering from a torn ACL.

There has been no official confirmation yet of Dzeko's move breaking down, but should the deal collapse, it will represent another bitter blow to Chelsea boss Antonio Conte. The Chelsea manager has cut a frustrated figure throughout the transfer window, as his search for a target man to challenge Alvaro Morata has so far proved unsuccessful.

The Blues manager has been linked with a host of Premier League strikers over the course of the month, with Arsenal's Olivier Giroud the latest name to be linked with a move across London.

Giroud would reportedly like to stay in the capital, but it is unclear whether or not Arsenal would sanction a loan move to Chelsea or whether the Blues would meet their reported £35m valuation.

Chelsea very close to signing proven goalscorer from rivals, talks progressing well

Chelsea are looking to sign Olivier Giroud from Arsenal this month.

Antonio Conte is determined to sign a target man in order share the goalscoring burden with Morata and the Italian has identified Giroud as an option.

The Blues were expected to sign Edin Dzeko from Roma initially. However, the player did not accept the personal terms and the move has broken down.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea are closing in on the French international now and talks have been progressing well between the two clubs.

Arsenal reached an agreement to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang earlier today and they can afford to let go of Giroud now.

The Frenchman has been a back up to Alexandre Lacazette so far this season. It will be interesting to see whether Chelsea are planning to start him alongside Morata every week.

The 31-year-old has shown that he can score goals consistently and his style of play at Arsenal proves that he can link up with players like Hazard and Morata with ease. Giroud has scored 98 goals in his last five seasons for Arsenal.

Despite his age, Giroud has the ability to improve Chelsea in attack and make a difference for them during the remainder of the season.

Edin Dzeko's proposed move to Chelsea has fallen through
Emerson Palmieri will fly to the UK on Tuesday to undergo a medical with Chelsea - but the Blues will not be signing his Roma team-mate Edin Dzeko.
Sky in Italy reported the clubs have agreed a deal of £17.6million plus £7m in add-ons for the left-back to move to Stamford Bridge.
Palmieri leaves Italy on Tuesday and will undergo a medical in London ahead of the move.
Striker Dzeko, however, will not be joining up with Antonio Conte because of the amount of money and length of contract being requested by the player.
The Bosnia international is asking for a three-and-half-year deal worth around £120,000 per week.
Chelsea, who were willing to pay a fee of up to £26m for the former Manchester City forward , are closely monitoring Olivier Giroud's situation after Arsenal agrred a £60m deal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has said he will
only allow France striker Giroud to leave the Emirates if they sign a new striker before the transfer deadline and the Aubameyang deal is ready to go once Borussia Dortmund find a replacement.

*```A better finisher than Morata? Batshuayi proves he has been harshly treated by Conte*```

The Blues striker hasn't had many chances at Stamford Bridge but he provided the goals in a rare start for Antonio Conte's side against Newcastle

Michy Batshuayi is having a pretty good run in the Chelsea first team - with Alvaro Morata having missed the last three games - and he showed his worth with a brace versus Newcastle United in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday.

His appearance at Stamford Bridge saw him make his fourth start in three weeks and he looked much sharper as a result.

He fired in a double to put himself just two goals behind Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata in Chelsea's scoring charts this season on 10 strikes.

Chelsea ran out 3-0 winners on the afternoon with Marcos Alonso adding a trademark free-kick in the second half, while Antonio Conte gave a debut to academy starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Many of Batshuayi’s goals have come against weaker teams but Batshuayi has been afforded few chances under Conte since arriving at the club in the summer of 2016.

Sunday's two-goal performance suggested that perhaps he has been a little harshly treated by his manager.

His finishing ability has never been in question at Chelsea having scored a goal every 99 minutes in a blue shirt. However, it is true that he lacks the presence offered by a Morata or Diego Costa as a target man, while his link up play is often lacking.

Conte likes his striker to be the pivot or focal point of the attack, allowing the likes of Hazard and Pedro to flourish behind the No.9, but Batshuayi has never convinced his manager in this respect.

The 24-year-old hasn't had the easiest of times adapting at Chelsea after stepping up from Ligue 1 to the Premier League in a £33 million move from Marseille. He didn't know the language and quickly discovered that his manager didn't have much trust in his ability.

There's no doubt Batshuayi is capable of developing into a better player but he needs to be playing games and his time at Chelsea has left him fearing for his World Cup place with Belgium.

Chelsea look set to loan Batshuayi to Sevilla this month providing they find a replacement, with the west Londoners in painstaking talks with Roma for their star striker Edin Dzeko.

Conte has performed miracles at Chelsea, winning the title last season after the club had finished tenth the year before, but he hasn't been able to get what he wanted out of the young Belgian.

Batshuayi may have worked better in a front two after initially being earmarked by Conte to work in a 4-2-4 system he was trialling when he first joined - but this formation never came to fruition.

Perhaps under a different manager, Batshuayi could have flourished into a star but he will likely have to prove his worth elsewhere from February.

Chelsea offered Batshuayi for Llorente

an hour ago David Ornstein

Tier 1 source for Arsenal David Ornstein clarifies this complicated mess a bit
Gianluca Di Marzio broke then news yesterday that Olivier Giroud was 'very close' to moving to Stamford Bridge. However, as another source Ornetein adds, there's still no clarity in the deal.

Ornstein: ''Merry-go-round: Giroud was lined up to replace Aubameyang at Dortmund then got offer from Chelsea & was keen, so Dortmund turned to Batshuayi. But Chelsea baulked at Giroud fee so discussed Batshuayi/Llorente swap with Spurs, which nobody agreed on. Deadlock.''

The deal is massively complicated by the fact it's practically three clubs trying to achieve a swap & so each transfer depends on the other's completition. Chelsea are understood to be the most desperate of all so each option is considered.

Why can't we even but a 30something striker properly?

Chelsea, Arsenal, Dortmund in deadlock over Giroud, Aubameyang, Batshuayi deals

With less than 48 hours to go in the January transfer window, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Borussia Dortmund have managed to create a right ol’ mess, which has left all three teams wondering if any of the others will blink first.

Or, if you prefer your analogies in GIF form, here’s one from Twitter that quite accurately describes the situation. Take your pick which of these three doofuses is which team in this situation.

Dortmund won’t finalise Aubameyang transfer until they get Batshuayi off Chelsea who won’t finalise selling until they get Giroud off Arsenal who won’t finalise selling until they get Aubameyang pic.twitter.com/s4YL7KHuiA

The BBC’s David Ornstein, attuned to the Arsenal beat as usual, breaks down the situation quite succinctly, including the minor detour into Llorente-land from Chelsea once again.

It goes something like this:

Arsenal agree deal with & for BVB’s Aubameyang
BVB line up Arsenal’s Giroud
As Dzeko starts looking unlikely, Chelsea start looking at alternatives, including Giroud
Giroud prefers to stay in London, favors Chelsea offer
BVB approach Batshuayi; he is keen
But Arsenal want too much for Giroud (is this the initial £35m asking price?)
Chelsea return to Llorente (loan); Spurs wants to sell instead or swap with Batshuayi
Batshuayi rejects Spurs angle because Michy is a good man. Also, he wants to play more not just be backup again.
So where does that leave us?

Michy is okay with the BVB option and they’re okay with selling Aubameyang and gettin Batshuayi instead (unclear if this is a permanent move or just a loan — hopefully the latter, but a sale with a buyback is fine by me as well).

The question now becomes how badly Arsenal want Aubameyang, because in order to do that, they’ll have to let Giroud join Chelsea, which then frees up Batshuayi, which then frees up Aubameyang. (Unless BVB find a different replacement of course, but that doesn’t seem to be a realistic option at the moment.)

Di Marzio claimed that a £15m agreement had been found between Chelsea and Arsenal, but more recent reports disagree.

No agreement between Chelsea and Arsenal as yet for Giroud but talks ongoing - latest to come on @TeleFootball

Batshuayi akahamia Dortmund basi Chelsea wanaweza kufanikiwa kumchukua Giroud.
