Baba Rahman set for Schalke loan

Chelsea left-back Baba Rahman is set to join Schalke on loan, the German club's sporting director Christian Heidel has confirmed.
Baba joined the Blues in 2015 but has endured a miserable spell at Stamford Bridge, making just 15 Premier League appearances for the club.

The Ghana international suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage at the start of 2017, ruling him out for the remainder of the year.

However, he is now on the comeback trail and Schalke, who took Baba on loan in the 2016-17 season, are in talks to secure him for the rest of the season.

"I expect a decision to be taken in a relatively short term", Heidel said to german outlet Reviersport.

"Many things are already exchanged between Chelsea and us. Now I'm waiting for an answer from Chelsea to my most recent email.

"It's not certain yet if the loan can be for 18 months."

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte insisted his players had never doubted their own form after a 4-0 victory at Brighton ended a run of five straight stalemates.
When asked if the performance had sent a message to those suggesting Chelsea were ‘in crisis’, Conte hit back: “Whoever said this has to pay great attention to the stats.

“We are unbeaten in 13 games. A lot of times, the press try to see the negative aspect and don’t see the positive aspect.

“This team, with many problems, is unbeaten in 13 games in every competition. This means we are doing important work with the players to win.

“Today, despite [having] six important players less, we won 4-0."

Antonio Conte told after th Brighton win that Courtois' fitness for the next match will be assessed later.
“[Thibaut] Courtois, we have to check his situation. He had a kick on his ankle. For today he wasn’t available, but Willy Caballero played a really good game. I’m happy for him.”

Thierry Henry thinks Antonio Conte deserves significant praise for his management of Eden Hazard after the Belgian was "unplayable” against Brighton.
Conte's side were without a win in five games in all competitions heading into the clash on the south coast and were lacklustre in their previous match against Leicester, where Hazard was substituted after 62 minutes.

That decision at the time was met with boos from some parts of the Chelsea fanbase but Henry thinks Conte has managed the player perfectly in order to get the best out of him.

"I like what Antonio Conte does," Henry said.


"I watched the game against Leicester and they weren't scoring goals - Conte took him off. When you do that to a player like him with the quality he has, it woke him up. From the beginning today, he meant business.

"Conte did it last season ahead of a game with Arsenal and we all know what he did to Arsenal with that goal last year. I like the way Hazard reacted from the Leicester game.

"That's the job of the boss - sometimes a player might be tired, sometimes a player needs a reminder that he's not doing enough. I'm not saying Hazard wasn't. Usually when you take the main player off after an hour when you're supposed to win that game. It got the reaction of, 'OK, I'm on the bench, but we'll see next week'."

Eden Hazard - 10

The first 45 minutes was Hazard at his very best. A clinical finish, wonderful flicks and Brighton just couldn't hold on to him. It really was sensational at times. Got a superb brace and in this form there is hardly anyone else you would want to watch play.

Willian - 9

Along with Hazard the Brazilian was superb in the first half with his link up play and movement. That continued in the second period as he linked up wonderfully with Hazard and the pair caused Brighton all sorts of problems.

Victor Moses - 8

Did well for the first goal and looked to get up and down the wing as much as possible. Was involved in a lot of good in the first half. A bit quieter going forward in the second half, however did well defensively to help out Azpilicueta and provided some good outlet. Got his goal well at the end.

Tiemoue Bakayoko - 8

A decent first half as he won the ball well and used it well also. Shout for a pen against him, however would have been soft if given. Seemed to fade a little more in the second half, having played so much on Wednesday. However, a pretty solid display from a man under some pressure.

Christensen will be available for the next game, says Conte

Antonio Conte has revealed Andreas Christensen suffered a contusion, not a concussion, and will be available for the game against Arsenal.
Referee Jon Moss ordered Christensen off the pitch in the first half of the Brighton game as the defender appeared to be struggling with a head injury. Christensen clashed with the back of Shane Duffy’s head, but was assessed by the Chelsea medical team and cleared to continue.

"For Andreas it was a simple contusion," Conte said.

"The referee asked him, no? This substitution. But honestly the player did not want to come off. ‘When you have another player like David Luiz, yeah, I decided to make a change. The player is OK. He is available for the next game, for the next training."
