Joining the league of middle income countries has nothing to with poverty rates in a country. Middle income deals with the gross national income of a country per capita.
A country's poverty rates or index, on the other hand, is the percentage of a population who have incomes falling below that specific country's poverty line.
Don't confuse poverty index and MIC.
