Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE National Housing Corporation (NHC) is soon expected to start implementing a robust project for the construction of 5,000 low cost houses, expected to be completed in 2025 at a cost of 466bn/-.
Dubbed Samia Housing Scheme (SHS), the project is expected to offer employment opportunities to about 26,400 Tanzanians with 17,600 people employed directly, while another 8,800 people will grab indirect employment.
The revelation was made here on tuesday by NHC’s Public Affairs and Information Manager, Muungano Saguya, when giving the 2021/2022 progress report on the implementation of various projects and key priorities for this financial year (2022/23).
According to Mr Saguya, the state owned housing company had a capital base of 5.04tri/- that was accrued from its 2,872 different buildings with about 18,654 units countrywide.
Regarding the SHS project, the NHC spokesperson said a greater percentage of the houses (50 per cent) would be built in Dar es Salaam while 20 per cent of the same would be constructed in the country’s capital—Dodoma and that the remaining 30 per cent would be taken to other regions.
