People like this OP don't understand the amount of details and time it took to design the integrated circuits to make such a magnificent Las Vegas dome. Of cause, you have to be intelligent to understand that. There is a good reason why intel forced PC manufacturers to put "intel Inside" label on every PC because there was a bunch of people who didn't know what was powering those computers.

Both Ancient and modern architecture/engineering are outstanding. Modern engineers have an advantage because of the abundance access to knowledge and advanced technologies. Ancient engineers built massive buildings with basic tools and limited technology and limited access to knowledge. They only used their available knowledge of Physics and at the time, Physics and Mathematics weren't that advanced.

Like the Colosseum for instance, was built around 20000 years ago (72AD - opened in 80AD). Imagine building such a massive amphitheater, of capacity to hold more than 80000 spectators without using reinforced concrete, cranes, or steel? And construction only took 8 years. I doubt any modern engineer can build such, and if there exist, then they are very few. Another example is the pyramids of Egypt. They were built in the desert and the whole structures do not have windows, just massive stone blocks. But when you enter inside, the air is so cool (≈22 degrees) and you wonder how they did that without modern air conditioning technologies, while a modern building in Dar es Salaam or Nairobi is super hot even with windows.

I would say that modern engineers are more advantaged and benefit from their infinite access to knowledge and advanced technologies, therefore they can make structures that one could only imagine in the past. In the modern world, if for instance I am an architect, I do not even need to design a building. I just search the internet for plan drawings and put my name on them and no one will know they are not mine (Just emphasizing how advanced technology and access to knowledge have made things much easier). I am sure ancient engineers and architects would have cracked these modern technologies with time. In fact, some of the modern technologies were developed by ancient scientists. Da Vinci's drawings on aerodynamics, bridges, load bearing walls, war artillery are the ones used to make modern war equipment, aero planes, suspension bridges etc. Da Vinci studied the human anatomy, his drawings are used in modern medicine, making of robots etc. His drawings were so accurate and detailed and at that time, the electron microscope had not even been invented yet his drawings/developments from his drawings are the ones mostly used today. Therefore, to a certain degree, modern technology is dependent on past inventions.

Somebody like Nikola Tesla for instance invented Alternating Current, Tesla Coil, Wireless Power Transmission etc. (Though Tesla is quite recent, but the technology at his time was also quite limited; for instance electricity had just been invented during his time). Developments from his inventions of electromagnetism, AC are applied in making Tesla electric vehicles. Rumour has it that the FBI confiscated many of Tesla's drawings and files after his death and nobody knows where they are. Probably being used/hidden by the government, as many cooperatives would lose a lot of money if his inventions were made public (As I said, this is a rumour, not sure whether this is true).

I like the fact that when you started discussing serious things, the buffoons that were arguing with you vamoosed. The most intelligent thing they can do is search photos of cities only and post them and shout how they are better.

Don't forget that there was a lot of ancient knowledge that was lost, since humans didn't have better means of keeping records. So, we really don't know much of what they knew. Modern scientist are puzzled by the way the pyramids were made, because of lack of knowledge the ancients Egyptians had. The Romans knew what type of clay and composition to cement stones together, to support huge structures like aqueducts without any steel reinforcement.

You pointed out how cool the inside of the pyramids are, that is one example of the ancient "advanced" knowledge. It could be the type of clay that dissipates heat at higher rate (just like space shuttle ceramic fibers do), or the angle of reflection of the building or the whole structure was probably designed in such a way that it loses so much heat at night such that, it stays cool through out the day. They probably knew Newtons law of cooling 1000s of year before us.

While it's true that modern Engineers have a lot of tools at their disposal, Math and physics have hardly changed in the last 100yrs. In math particularly, we haven't had much breakthrough since 18th century. Every advanced concepts we use today like contour integration or Fourier analysis (in signal processing), were discovered over 200 years ago. The rockets Elon Musk sent to space, that is just 17th century Newtonian physics.
