One of the biggest mistake we africans make, is to trust our political leaders and expect more from them without thinking rationally. Why can't you ask your leaders who say that will electrify SGR within 5 years the following questions;Honestly I expected an electric train as per the jubilee manifesto. ..but then again issues such as power came up hence shelved the plan and the government promised to increase power production in 5 years before upgrading it to an electric one within the 5 years. sometimes I think ku work as per your uwezo ndio inafaa hata jirani wako akikuchekelea.

I only know one politician in tz and its magufulii have been listening to babu owino....i believe he is going to become a very powerful politician in the future....his words tho....sound like he fears nothing.
we dont need electric trains....what we need is to shorten the time that our goods take to reach Uganda from Mombasa and also reduce the cost of transportation...thats all..the diesel trains will also do that...besides we are building a light rail in Nairobi...it is electric..One of the biggest mistake we africans make, is to trust our political leaders and expect more from them without thinking rationally. 1)If the reason for not building electrical railway is lack of enough power, why didn't they build all electrical infrastructure and buy few diesel locomotives to operate while waiting for power, remember electrical railway can be used by both diesel and electrical locomotives
2)The management of Kenya SGR will be under Chinese for at least first ten years in order to recover their money, who is going to fund electrification process?, remember chinese what their money back as fast as possible.
3) Currently Kenya is purchasing big number of locomotives enough for many years to come, if after few years the railway will be electrified means to buy new electrical locomotives, where will Kenya do with these very many diesel locomotives, otherwise Kenya will have double number of locomotives than what it needs.
If you ask yourselves all these questions the answer you get is that, there were no plan for building electrical railway from day go, and there is no plan for doing so in future, but there is desire and wish, it is not economical and logistically very very difficult

yes...I dont think we have to upgrade those trains in 5 years because we have already bought a lot of them....it will be a big waste...what we can do is to use them for like 20-30 years then upgrade once our economy is richer...If we want electric trains then we have the Nairobi light rail, soon to start construction...I agree with you, the Current diesel locomotives can save that purpose for the next 50yrs, Kenya needs to concentrate with other important projects not to sink more funds to one project which already has taken a lot of money
