A fifth US-made Abrams tank has been destroyed in the special military operation in the vicinity of Avdeyevka, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed on Thursday.
"The enemy has lost up to 95 servicemen, three tanks, including one US-made Abrams, two infantry fighting vehicles, nine cars, as well as two US-made M777 howitzers and two D-30 guns," the ministry said.
They clarified that in the Avdeyevka region, units of Russia's Battlegroup Tsentr improved their position on the front line and repelled seven counterattacks by assault groups of the 47th, 53rd, and 59th Mechanized Brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the areas of the settlements of Tonenkoye, Berdychi, and Pervomaiskoye in the Donetsk People's Republic.

Moscow has forced Kiev to choose between losing men or territory, according to retired French General Jerome Pellistrandi, the editor-in-chief of the Revue Defense Nationale.There are no good options for Kiev, a retired French general has said.



Pellistrandi pointed out that Russian forces have made advances ever since the Ukrainians’ chaotic retreat from Avdeevka in mid-February, and are now approaching Chasov Yar and Kharkov.

On March 26, Russian military sources reported a successful missile strike on the Ukrainian military positions in the town of Chasov Yar located near Artyomovsk. According to the open sources, Russian Iskander ballistic missile destroyed an underground bunker, where Ukrainian command post was hidden.

Officers from NATO countries, in particular from the United States and Poland, were reportedly eliminated as a result of the strike at the command post. The foreigners were involved in coordination and command of the Ukrainian grouping in the strategically important direction.

NATO senior officers are largely involved in planning of Ukrainian defensive operations in the Donbas. Before the attack, there were reports that NATO ‘military advisers’ came to Chasov Yar amid the ongoing Russian advance in the Artyomovsk direction. On March 23, the Russian Ministry of Defense declared the full Russian control of the village of Krasnoe (Ivanovskoe) located near Chasov Yar.

Soon after the strike, Ukrainian ambulance aircraft were spotted heading to Poland.

The suspects in last week’s Moscow terrorist attack were linked to Ukrainian nationalists, the Russian Investigative Committee stated on Thursday, citing preliminary findings. The perpetrators had received “significant sums of money” from Ukraine, the law enforcement agency said.

Investigators have obtained “substantiated evidence” that the suspected assailants received funding from Ukraine in the form of cryptocurrency, which was then used to prepare the terrorist attack, the statement read.

Law enforcement officers have also identified and detained another suspect who was allegedly involved in financing the attack, the Investigative Committee said, without identifying the individual.

Earlier, the head of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), Aleksandr Bortnikov, told reporters that the US, UK and Ukraine may have been behind the attack. The Ukrainians may have been preparing a “window” for them to cross back over the border, the official said. “On the other side, they were to be welcomed as heroes,” he added.

The four suspected perpetrators had previously been identified as radical Islamists, recruited through an online chat apparently operated by the Afghanistan-based offshoot of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS). However, the investigators said at that time that, despite the group’s claim of responsibility for the terrorist act, another party, such as a Ukrainian intelligence agency, may have been involved in the plot.

Russian missile and drone attacks hit thermal and hydro power plants in central and western Ukraine, power grid operator Ukrenergo said on Friday.
