CLEARING AND FORWARDING OFFICER

Job Summary
The Clearing and Forwarding Officer is responsible for managing end-to-end customs clearance and freight coordination for import and export shipments, ensuring strict compliance with Tanzanian regulations. The role ensures timely and cost-effective movement of goods through Dar es Salaam Port and other entry points, while maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, verify, and process all import and export documentation, including customs declarations, shipping instructions, bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists,certificates of origin, and necessary permits.
  • Act as the primary liaison with Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), port authorities, shipping lines, airlines, and other regulatory and logistics partners.
  • Monitor and track shipments to ensure timely clearance and delivery, proactively addressing any delays or issues.
  • Accurately calculate and verify duties, taxes, and other governmental charges in accordance with Tanzania customs regulations and EAC tariff guidelines.
  • Maintain organized and accurate records of all clearance activities and transactions for audit and reporting purposes.
  • Ensure full compliance with Tanzanian import/export laws, TRA requirements, and international trade standards.
  • Resolve clearance delays, discrepancies, or disputes efficiently and communicate updates to internal teams and clients.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, reduce costs, and improve efficiency within the clearance and forwarding workflow.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, Business Administration, or a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in clearing and forwarding, customs brokerage, or import/export operations, preferably within Tanzania or the East African region.
  • Working knowledge of Tanzanian customs regulations, TRA procedures, port operations, and relevant international trade documentation.
  • Familiarity with customs clearance systems (e.g., TANCIS – Tanzania Customs Integrated System) and freight management software.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication skills in English and Swahili.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and perform under tight deadlines.
