Lakini bado anahitajika defensive minded deep lying midfielder ambaye anaweza kutoa pasi vizuri kwa wenzake na kuleta calmness kwenye kiungo na kuusoma mchezo vizuri. Carrick sasa hivi ni 32yrs, january inabidi anunuliwe kiungo wa aina hii. Upande wa Box to box Jones, Cleverly na Anderson wanaweza kucheza, attacking mids wapo pia lakini midfielders wa type za Roy Keane, Mascherano, Montolivo, De jong, Makelele etc. hatuna zaidi ya Carrick
