  Manchester United have become the first club to top the £60m mark in earnings from Premier League prize money and TV cash.
  United earned £60.4m as the new record overseas TV deals saw top-flight clubs bring in up to £7m more than last season.

  Sir Alex Ferguson was tonight named Manager of the Year by his fellow league managers and used the occasion to offer his support to Carlo Ancelotti, sacked by Chelsea within an hour of the season's end for coming second.
  Ferguson was also named the Premier League manager of the year following Manchester United's title triumph and picked up a special merit award for having passed 2,000 matches as manager.
  Speaking at the League Managers' Association awards dinner in London via video link from Old Trafford, Ferguson said: "It's a wonderful honour. It has been a fantastic season for us in the most difficult league in the world."
  Ancelotti, sacked by Chelsea on Sunday, attended the dinner and Ferguson said to him: "Carlo, you are a fantastic man and you have showed great courage in coming to the dinner tonight, well done."
  Norwich's Paul Lambert was named the Championship manager of the year after the Canaries, runners-up to QPR, were promoted to the Premier League at the first attempt, having won the League One title a year ago. Brighton's Gus Poyet picked up the League One award and Chesterfield's John Sheridan won the League Two prize. The LMA service to football award was given to Jimmy Hill, for his lifetime's work as a player, manager, chairman and broadcaster.

  The curse of the Sky News mic struck again at a Manchester United press conference on Tuesday, with Sir Alex Ferguson being recorded telling a press officer to ban a journalist who asked a question about Ryan Giggs.
  Ferguson did not realise his comments were being recorded by Sky News, in an incident similar to the one which threw Gordon Brown's 2010 general election campaign into turmoil and spawned an unlikely national hero in Gillian Duffy.
  Giggs was named in the House of Commons on Monday as the footballer alleged to have had an extra-marital affair with the model Imogen Thomas.
  Ferguson was overhead ordering a press officer to "ban him on Friday" after Rob Harris, a sports correspondent for the news agency Associated Press, asked the United manager "how important" Giggs was for the team on Saturday.
  Ferguson, not amused, shot back: "All the players are important, every one of them."
  Minutes later, the manager was recorded by a Sky News microphone asking press officer Karen Shotbolt about "the guy that asked the question about Giggsy &#8230; at the press conference". She replied: "Which one?"
  Shortly afterwards Ferguson is heard to ask: "Is he coming on Friday?"
  Shotbolt replies: "The guy with the laptop?"
  Ferguson then orders: "Aye. Then we'll get him. Ban him on Friday."
  The Scottish manager is known for his run-ins with the media. Ferguson is due to meet the BBC director general, Mark Thompson, to end a feud which has seen the manager refuse to be interviewed by the corporation for seven years. His press conferences quite often provoke angry rebukes against journalists.
  Mark Evans, head of home news at Sky News, said: "Any microphone is a live microphone."
  Lou Ferrara, AP's managing editor of sport, added: "Rob Harris was doing his job as a journalist by asking a question.
  "Our expectation is that he'll ask more questions and be afforded the ability to do so as he covers the world's most popular sport."
  Manchester United had not responded to a request for comment at the time of publication.
