Steven Gerrard's Rangers are 19 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership

Glasgow (AFP) - Rangers took another huge step towards ending Celtic’s grip on Scottish football as Callum McGregor’s own goal gave Steven Gerrard’s men a 1-0 win in Saturday’s Old Firm derby.

The victory over their Glasgow rivals gave Rangers a massive 19-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic have three games in hand to try and close that gap, but Rangers look set to end the Hoops’ run of nine straight titles after claiming a 14th consecutive league win.

The game turned on a red card for Celtic defender Nir Bitton after he hauled down Alfredo Morelos just after the hour mark.

Neil Lennon’s men had dominated the first-half but could not find a way past Allan McGregor in the Rangers goal as he produced an outstanding save to turn Leigh Griffiths’s shot onto the post.

And at the other end, Celtic’s inability to defend set pieces which has cost them all season, was exposed when Joe Aribo flicked on a corner and the ball looped into the far corner off McGregor’s shoulder.

Rangers then held out for an 18th clean sheet in 22 league games this season to take a firm grip on the title race.

The blue side of Glasgow have not celebrated a major trophy since the club fell into liquidation in 2012 and tumbled down the leagues as a result.

Celtic have taken full advantage in that time, winning the last 12 domestic trophies on offer.

However, the tide has turned in Glasgow as former Liverpool captain Gerrard has slowly moulded Rangers into a force to contend with and now in his third season looks set to deliver silverware.

You have to respect your formidable opponents and guys Ole is doing some magic.. Fans thought after RB eliminated you then Pochettino might be surely getting his dream job cz EPL downfall was next lakini wapi at last but phew off you started winning points and here you are level with us wow...

My only concern is you guys seem to click through Fernando dictating play and that over reliance on him might cost you though hizo ni may bes man...

In November mlikua nyuma yetu kwa pointi 9 na sasa tupo level...

We are kind of in dry spell how quick we find our firing legs will determine where we start the second half of the season..

Otherwise we accept the challenge you guys are bringing and what's a game on 17th January 2021 will be...

If that can not happen, his mf spot (I mean DM) should be replaced with Milner and Thiago i would love if they place him at non holding midfield

Milner is so far aged in my opinion, I don't think he is capable of playing 2 games in a row and that position needs one who can do it on a permanent basis.

Very unfortunately, our talented mids are injury prones. As I know FSG they are not in anyway going to make any addition in our Mid.

Let's just hope they will be sane enough to bring us a CB this window.
