The Executive Director of Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation, Joseph Butiku, has said that the governments commitment and openness in fighting corruption deserved public praise.
He described President Kikwete as a role model, calling on the public to give him full support in his endeavour to fight the vice.
Butiku, who was speaking at a press conference in Dar es Salaam, said Kikwete is determined to fight the vice.
Speaking to members of the ruling party in Dodoma this week, President Kikwete lashed out at the party members who buy votes saying they would not be accepted.
To the surprise of most of us, the President openly told CCM leaders and members that the party will not accept corrupt leaders buy leadership posts.
These are strong words from a man who is determined to fight the vice, Butiku said.
Kikwete was disappointed by rampant corruption within CCM circles and appealed to the party leaders and members to respect code of ethics.
There are allegations that some of us (CCM leaders) are buying postsI am saying this from the bottom of my heartI am angry with these acts, said Butiku, quoting Kikwetes speech.
Butiku described the Presidents openness as one step towards success in the fight against corruption, deeply-routed in public and private sectors.
He also lauded the governments initiatives to fight money laundering, drug abuse and other social problems currently on the rise.
Local media once quoted President Kikwete as saying he had names of corrupt officials and drug dealers, but no
tangible efforts have been made to pin down the culprits.
Anti-corruption crusaders have constantly been accusing the government for inaction and lack of seriousness against corrupt elements reported in public institutions.
There could be some problems with implementation, but as I said before the government openness and willingness is so important in the whole battle, said Butiku.
