Heartless Chelsea fans took to Twitter to claim Rebecca's death to cancer was "karma" following the QPR defender's fallout with Blues captain John Terry.
One wrote: "This is what happens when you go against the mighty John Terry Ole Ole Ole"
While another user said: "Hey rio wanna get a new girlfriend in the morning? (sic)"
And a third added: "Rio accused an innocent man of racism its karma (sic)"
A Chelsea spokesman condemned the "abhorrent behaviour."
Former England captain Ferdinand, 36, spoke at the weekend of his heartbreak over losing his "soulmate".

Chelsea's John Terry passed on his condolences to Rio after his teams Premier League victory Mother-of-three Rebecca, who was just 34, died on Friday night at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London after a short battle with cancer.
Ferdinand and Terry once formed a formidable relationship at the heart of the England defence, but they no longer speak as a result of the race row.
Terry was handed a four-match ban by the FA after he was found guilty of racially abusing Rio's younger brother Anton.
But Terry put all bad feeling aside when he passed on his condolences to the ex-Manchester United player and his family following Chelsea's Premier League title victory – the day after Rebecca's death.
Rebecca, mother to Lorenz, nine, Tate, six, and four-year-old Tia, is understood to have been diagnosed with breast cancer last year.
Rio and Rebecca married in August 2009 on Peter Island in the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean, renting the entire 1,800-acre resort.
