Arsenal 5-1 Benfica: Yaya Sanogo scores four in Emirates Cup
Yaya Sanogo scored four times as Arsenal beat Benfica 5-1 in the Emirates Cup.
The French striker, 21, failed to find the net in 14 appearances last season but caught the eye as Benfica were swept aside at Emirates Stadium.
Costa Rica striker Joel Campbell was also on target for the Gunners, for whom Alexis Sanchez and Calum Chambers made their debuts.
In the tournament's early kick-off, Monaco drew 2-2 against Valencia .
Sanogo opened his account on 26 minutes, flicking the ball past Benfica goalkeeper Artur Moraes from Aaron Ramsey's pass.
It was 2-0 five minutes before the break as Campbell, back from a loan spell at Olympiakos and several impressive displays at the World Cup, volleyed home smartly from young defender Hector Bellerin's cross.
Sanogo broke the Benfica offside trap to make it three from Campbell's pass moments later, while the young striker completed his hat-trick in first-half stoppage time, tucking home a Kieran Gibbs cross.
Sanogo followed up Ramsey's saved effort to complete the scoring with his fourth and Arsenal's fifth early in the second half, before Nico Gaitan headed a consolation for Benfica - domestic treble winners in Portugal last season - just after the hour mark.
Chile forward Sanchez, signed from Barcelona, replaced Campbell to a rousing reception with 15 minutes left.
Colombia striker Radamel Falcao, who missed the World Cup because of a serious knee injury, made an appearance off the bench as Monaco twice came from behind in their match with Valencia.
Falcao appeared in the closing stages, his first action since January.
Arsenal play Monaco on Sunday before facing Manchester City in the Community Shield next weekend, while Benfica will close the tournament against Valencia.

Arsenal forward Theo Walcott, 25, took to Twitter to warn their Premier League rivals to "watch out" after witnessing new signing Alexis Sanchez, 25, in his first training session since joining from Barcelona, adding: "Will be a deadly force!! #afc #COYG #SpeedMatters"
