'I cannot deny the transfer market’s a problem for me' says Arsenal's Arsene Wenger


He also took a side-swipe at managerial rivals who are simply buying teams, rather than -producing them, saying: “Isn’t that the point of being a manager, rather than the ones who buy and sell?”

While Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas and other Premier League coaches have been out spending millions on new stars this summer, Wenger has spent nothing.

Moves for players such as Luis Suarez, Wayne Rooney and Gonzalo Higuain have ended in failure, with other clubs stepping in and offering more.

Wenger says he could never work with a director of football, unlike North London -rivals Spurs, who have had Franco Baldini working on their transfer deals and earning praise from AVB.

But when asked if he took too much responsibility on his shoulders, Wenger was brutally honest, admitting finding -players for the right money was a problem for him.

He told the Daily Star Sunday: “I have been in charge of Arsenal for more than 900 games but I don’t deny that the transfer -market is a problem for me. I have people around me who help but the final decision has to be down to the manager.

“Isn’t being a football manager about developing a player and making him a better one? Or are we just going out and buying them now?

“During the transfer window the quality of the manager seems to just be down to who he buys and who he sells.

“My ideal squad would consist of 17 to 18 players and they would be young players. If you have too many in a squad you never have the chance to give a young player an opportunity.

“Once you have 25 senior players you can send your academy to the moon -because no one will ever get the chance to play. Buying players is not as easy any more. There are more contenders and more great players.

“I always wanted to be in a position where I did not have to buy.

“People today have been brainwashed. People don’t question any more if players are better than the ones you already have.

“Take Tomas Rosicky. You have to find a better player than him or Santi Cazorla or a -better player than Jack Wilshere. That’s what people forget, just how good the players you already have are. It is difficult to accept because people don’t look -any more.”

One thing Wenger does have in common with AVB is the praise the Spurs manager has recently heaped on fit-again Rosicky, suggesting it was -almost like having a new -player playing for you.

Wenger said: “He is a -fantastic player. He was one of those players who turned our season around two years ago after a long-term injury. And last season it was the same.

“Many times our results are linked with his -presence. He will have a big impact this season if he stays -injury free. It is also -important for me to use him in the right way.

“We have some great players, while some, unfortunately, have been injured, like Wilshere and -Aaron Ramsey. But they are now fit again.

“Ramsey is 22 and Wilshere is 21 so that means they can only get better. They have fantastic -qualities and have fantastic -engines.

“I’m not against having people to help me buy and sell. I cannot do it all. I am not Superman”

Wenger believes they can overtake the likes of Manchester United with the team he’s got, rather than going out to buy.

He said: “You can make up for that with two things. You need to improve what you have. Take Wilshere. He didn’t have too many games last season, Rosicky didn’t play many games last year.


“The second thing is to strengthen the squad, which we are trying to do and the third thing is that -Manchester United may not have the good season they had last year.

“We have to win our games like the one on Sunday against Spurs to be credible -contenders. We have until Monday night to strengthen our squad and, hopefully, we will do that.

“I could not work with a -director of football. A director of football buys the -players. When they don’t work, you are guilty for them not playing well. If it works the director of football has bought well.

“I’m not against having people to help me buy and sell. I cannot do it all. I am not Superman.

“But the final decision has to be the manager’s.”
 
My comments on the red highlighted sentences respectively:
1. I think we have all noted that not only finding players is a problem but even signing them.

2. I believe we already have 17-18 senior players, is he saying NO NEW SIGNINGS? Hili suala nililigusia kipindi flani, Wenger yuko concerned kudevelop youngsters zaidi kuliko kununua established players. Nieleweke kuwa kudevelop wachezaji wadogo si vibaya lakini LAZIMA kuwe na balance. Zelalem hawezi kudevelop vizuri kama leo akiwa na miaka 16 anaweza kuwekwa bench. Kunapaswa kuwe na squad kubwa ya kuwachallenge na kuwamentor hao youngsters kiasi kwamba siku akiwa bench unakuwa unajua kweli kafanya kazi. And to prove it all, kufocus in developing youngsters has failed in the last 8 years kwa kuwa hakuna trophy hata moja. Na hao youngsters wakiona hivyo wanaondoka unaanza upya. So there is something terribly wrong.

3. Then he goes on to say he wants to be in a position where he does not want to buy. fair enough. If you do not want to buy and put faith in youngsters, make sure you win trophies with them or its just bollocks. And the reason fans are mad is because the so called youngsters have failed to win trophies for 8 consecutive years not because fans are brainwashed. In fact he is brainwashing fans into thinking they are brainwashed.

4. Wenger says he has players that will be challenging in FIVE OR SIX YEARS. WHAT THE F ARE YOU SMOKING??? Who wants to wait for FIVE MORE YEARS?? Koscielny made it clear, if we don't buy and do not challenge he is leaving next season. This is how it is going to be if we do not want to strengthen the team and wait for youngsters to perform. YEAR IN, YEAR OUT!

5. Listen. Football is competition. You do not have to wait for Manchester United to perform poorly. YOU HAVE TO BE BETTER THAN THEM. This is not rocket science. You do not take chances like that.

Arsenal imefanikiwa kuzungumza na timu ya Palermo ya Italy kuhusu kumsajili kipa wa timu hiyo Emiliano Viviano ambae ni kipa namba 2 wa timu ya taifa ya Italy.

Viviano alikuwa akichezea timu ya Fiorentina lakini timu hiyo imeamua kutomsajili moja kwa moja hivyo kuwapa motisha Arsenal kumsogelea na kuzungumza nae.
