Manchester City are firmly at the front of the queue to land Robin van Persie if Arsenal are forced to sell their star striker.
Robin rocker: Arsenal fear Van Persie WILL leave after Euro 2012

But City's greatest competition could come from Real Madrid or Barcelona if either Spanish club decide to enter the bidding.

City are poised with an opening bid of £20million for Van Persie, who has just a year left on his Arsenal contract, with Manchester United, Juventus and Anzhi Makhachkala also expressing an interest.

Having already lost Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Adebayor, Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri to City in recent years, Arsenal are desperate to do all they can to stop Van Persie following his former team-mates to the Etihad Stadium.

There is a suspicion, however, that United will refuse to be drawn into a bidding war with their rich rivals and Juventus have been scared by some of the figures involved for a 28-year-old.

Anzhi are prepared to offer Van Persie a staggering £300,000-a-week deal, but the Dutchman has no wish to finish his career in Russia and is motivated by top-class trophies rather than money.

Spain could provide a solution to all parties as Van Persie is understood to be keen on the prospect of Madrid or Barca and Arsenal would rather sell their captain abroad if they have to let him go.

Madrid have shown an interest in Van Persie, but are yet to make a move while Barca have given little indication they will enter the bidding.

It seems City are currently right to feel confident their Arsenal old boys team will get a new star player.

Cahill is a FA and European Champion!! He left Bolton before they were relegated, hardly a loser!
 
Dutch auction: Arsenal finally admit they will sell Robin van Persie… for £30 million
Theo Walcott could follow him out the door as contract negotiations stall.
Arsenal have slapped a £30 million price tag on striker Robin van Persie.
The Dutch striker has so far failed to agree an extension to his current deal which has just one season left.
The club are willing to make Van Persie the highest earner in the club's history with an offer close to £130,000-a-week.
But Gunners chairman Peter Hill-Wood admitted that if another club offers Van Persie £250,000 a week, then Arsenal would not be able to compete.
But there is also a question mark about the future of Theo Walcott. The England winger also has one-year left on his contract but talks about a new deal have reached deadlock.
The two parties are still some distance from agreement and Walcott could be on the move in the summer.

This source appears to suggest that Arsenal are resigned to losing two of their prized assets as contract talks for both stall, leading to speculation that offers for Robin Van Persie and Theo Walcott will be considered ahead of their Emirates Stadium departures.
Clearly if Van Persie is looking to garner as high a wage packet as possible then Arsenal can not challenge the likes of Man City and given that in footballing terms the North London side have failed to land any silverware in seven seasons the chances of the Dutch striker staying are growing slimmer by the day.
Last term proved to be the Gunners skipper's most prolific to date, with the 28 year old netting 37 goals in all competitions. Man City appear the most likely to make a significant offer for the former Feyenoord man and clearly the Premier League title holders have successfully snapped up Arsenal players in the past so a move to the Etihad Stadium is by no means impossible.

Theo Walcott has had an up and down time of it over the past 18 months, showing touches of brilliance but failing to put together a consistent run of form. Perhaps Wenger is willing to lose the England international given that the he has youngsters Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ryo Miyaichi to call upon as well as the most experienced wide-men Gervinho and Andrei Arshavin.

ARSENE WENGER has made £12million striker Olivier Giroud his second big summer signing.
The Arsenal boss agreed a deal with French champions Montpellier for the 6ft 3in France international.
Giroud was an unused sub in last Monday's 1-1 draw with England.
Wenger has been a long-time admirer and intends to play Giroud, 25, up front alongside new-boy Lukas Podolski and Robin van Persie.
Giroud was Ligue 1's leading scorer last season with 21 goals
