Any bird transmitting russian channels receivable in Mombasa? Will appreciate!!
 
Hallo, which diseqc version are you using, version 1.0 supports either 2x1 or 4x1 while version 1.1 supports 8x1. On my receiver, am using ver 1.1 with a eurostar switch of 8 input ports and it works. Does anyone have a working combination of two 4x1 switches combined with a splitter and using diseqc ver 1.0?

Unfortunately you cannot configure the modem to consume less since the contend you are downloading needs
that amount of data. If its streaming try a lower resolution ( less data usage) but lower picture quality on it.
I suggest getting a data package not billed by the data transferred but monthly usage.

Let me show you how I do it:


Of importance before we begin is to recall that all satellites are positioned in a geostationary orbit far above the equator, an area referred to as the Clarke Belt, to maximize coverage over the inhabited portions of the earth. So for us whose country is around the equator, it's relatively easy to nab these birds.


Let's say as a beginner for instance you were interested in receiving say Tv & radio stations from Tanzania kwa mfano tu. What to do? The first step is to first find out the satellite location of these stations. To do this you go to LyngSat (Sat1) then click on the Free TV, Africa tab. This'll open up a list of all African (or other continent) countries (Sat1a), click on your country of interest and this opens up a list showing their tv/radio channels and the satellites on which they're located (Sat1b). Clicking on the channel or satellite opens up a page (Sat1c) showing all the parameters/settings for that channel as well as the satellite. Ordinarily, as long as your satellite is properly aligned,you don't have to enter these settings manually (unless perhaps for weak & unstable signals). Usually your decoder is able to automatically pick up and store the settings automatically when you do a blindscan.


Once we get our satellite details, we then open SatBeams - Home which'll show us the footprint of our satellite of interest, i.e the region on the earth's surface where the satellite beam of interest is pointed or focused at. Staying with our example above, we found EATV, ITV, Capital & TBC1 located on Intelsat 906 at 64.2 degrees East. The footprint for this satellite will appear as shown in SatBeams - Satellite Coverage Maps - Sat Footprint Intelsat 10-02 (Intelsat 1002, Intelsat Alpha-2, Intelsat X-02, IS-1002) / Thor 5 (Thor 2R) / Thor 6 (IS-1W) (fig Sat2). Zooming in will show you that the West Hemi beam clearly covers Kenya. Of importance here is to note that I've specifically selected the west hemi beam and not any other because this is the beam specified on lyngsat (the 2nd from last column) as containing those TV & radio stations from Tanzania.


Having established that the beam covers our region/country, we then log into Satellite Finder / Dish Alignment Calculator with Google Maps | DishPointer.com to get the satellite parameters in terms of setting it up, i.e stuff like azimuth, LNB skew, elevation, etc (these terms have already been explained in the write-up I gave you). On dishpointer (Sat3) key in your location and satellite of interest to get the set up parameters. Staying with our example of IS906 and assuming a random location of Machakos town, then the Elevation=58.5 degrees, Azimuth=87 degrees and LNB Skew=86.6 degrees (Sat3a). For those with Android and iOS phones, get the DishPointer Augmented Reality app from your respective app stores, very handy. Though free for the Droids, kwa iOS mtalipa. Alternatively, look for apps called Dish Align and SatDir for iOS; I've used them and they're quite ok.


This done, we then head online once again, download and instal a software called GorbTrack from Berry's Homepage. This now will assist you to know if that satellite is receivable at your specific location. After installing GorbTrack, it'll direct you on where to get the list of towns for your country of residence, in our case Kenya. It'll also be able to tell you if the satellite signal is receivable at the place where you position your di8sh taking into account obstacles in your area such as buildings, walls and trees. It'll still be able to compute the azimuth, elevation as well as the skew.


Once all this is done, you may now go ahead to assemble and install your equipment using those parameters in conjunction with a digital satellite meter. If you find the time, please consider sharing your experiences here, with pictorial evidence whenever possible.

Some roast choice goat ribs will do for now, thanks. And you're most welcome pal. The photos almost refused to upload as I'm doing it on phone but luckily they did at the last minute. Now, substitute Machakos for Mombasa, Tz for Russia, etc. You get the drift.
 
Hi, Satmates recieved my srt 4950H jana it's one sleek gadge. There no many software updates yet on crosat unlike for the srt 4922 yet but hope that will change. What I've noticed so far is there's improvements in signal quality as well as stability compared to 4922. Does anyone else have this reciever? Managed to connect my modem and my c**am account but the performance is not as good as the srt 4922. Anyone else experienced the same or am I doing something wrong?
 
HOW TO UPDATE SOFTWARE FOR STRONG SRT 4950 H?

I purchased the above box in Nairobi, in some ways quite impressive, but the software is pretty bad, and unlike the Strong 4922, it is not at all clear how software can be updated. There is new software available on the Strong website for the 4950H, but I can not find any instructions anywhere on how to actually update, and the on-screen menus are of no help. Any one with any ideas or experience on how to do this, info would be most welcome.

I agree with your comments, the picture quality is great, and signal quality much better than I get on my Humax.

But I am also having big problems with internet conectivity. I have a wireless USB adaptor, which works perfectly on my laptop, but when I plug it in to either of the USB ports on the 4950H, the blue activity light does not come on, and it will not detect my wireless router, very frustrating.

As per my last post, the unit I bought in Nairobi has software version 1. dated June 2013, but on the Strong-Technologies web site there is a downloadable file for software dated September 2013, versin 2, so I think that may have solved a few problems - but HOW TO LOAD IT?
 
your post was a while ago and you may already have an answer. On the 4922 you can SAVE all of the channels/favourites to a file on a hard drive connected to the USB. Do your factory default, and then upload the file from the hard drive back to the decoder, and you will have all of your old friends again! I have done this on mine.
 
Impressive!... Just wondering what goodies do you get from Amos 15? Another thing is with the many LNBs , are you using a single Diseqc Switch or multi ? I am keen on knowing how to setup a multi Diseqc swtch like this one

Diseqc 1.1 has 8 ports for use !!!
 
That is not all there is to it bro. You need to check what kind of signal it is: whether EDGE/GPRS (2.5G) or HSPA/WCDMA (3G). Only the latter is likely to be of use to you in so far as IPTV is concerned. The signal should be strong and stable throughout.
Thanks Ranksat and Munyaga. Its 3G. After a closer observation their strengths, safaricom is excellent, Airtel good but orange is weak. the pin is disabled. The modem connects and remains connected if during the freezes. the tv channels show up with good picture quality. after a few seconds it freezes, it streams in, again it freezes. and continues with this sequence. Im wondering what exactly could be the problem.

To load the software go to menu, under USB menu select the file location on the USB and follow the command prompts. Hope I'm of assistance. All will be fine.
 
Thanks a lot for your advice, but at the moment, although I can see other files on my hard drive, I cannot even see the *.bin file that I downloaded, so cannot even select it and go to the next stage. Will try again.

Unzip the file first.
