Yes, even hyenas poop – and it’s famously white like chalk! Why? Because they crush bones with those mighty jaws, packing their scat with calcium. That same poop ends up feeding tortoises (to harden their shells) and even hedgehogs (to sharpen their pricks for protection). Talk of recycling!

Among the Kalenjin, the hyena is more than just a trickster – it’s a totem for over five clans and the source of timeless wisdom:
  • A hyena never notices its own stench or ugliness.
  • Though a hyena is dirty, others still recognize its usefulness.
  • You cannot trust a hyena to deliver meat to someone else.
  • If a hyena had cows for dowry, no family would refuse to give him their daughter. It means, a woman can be married anywhere by anybody.

🐾 Even the hyena leaves behind a white signature… what about you? Hyena’s poop on the road is considered a bad omen by Kalenjin traditionalists, and it can cause a mission to be abandoned.
