Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) is informing tourism stakeholders and the general public at large that effectively from January 20,2024 it is temporarily closing a stretch of the ARROW GLACIER Route for tourists climbing Mount Kilimanjaro through Machame, Umbwe, Lemosho and Londorosi, owing to ongoing excessive rains causing rocks and ice blocks to slide down, making the route slippery.

An inspection a team of experts from Kilimanjaro National Park carried out, in collaboration with their seasoned counterparts in safety on the mountains from the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), has revealed that the situation keeps on worsening, as rocks and ice blocs continue sliding down, making the route even more slippery and risk.

It's against this background that TANAPA is, therefore, closing the aforementioned route, pleading with tour operators and tourists to use the ordinary stretch of the route from Baranco towards Karanga and Barafu to reach the summit, pending for settling of the downpour and an ensuing inspection to ensure the stretch of the route is safe for both climbers and service providers.

The ARROW GLACIER stretch starts from Bananco stop over at LAVA TOWER area through crater to the summit. Tourists prefer to climb the mountain through the LAVA TOWER area to see beautiful scenery of the mountains and to reach the summit easily.
