President William Ruto on Tuesday alleged that the regime of his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta had set aside a budget to bribe courts and sway the decisions of the Judiciary.
Speaking on Tuesday while laying the foundation stone for the Kapsuswa Affordable Housing Project in Uasin Gishu County, President Ruto told off critics of his pilot project underscoring that he would not be cowed in his push to end corruption in the Judiciary.
The Head of State went on to assert that some people were urging him to set up a ‘bribing’ budget for the Judiciary just like former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government was doing.
He thus vowed not to be intimidated by court cases adding that his administration would not set the alleged budget to influence judgment but would rather fight the corruption head-on.
“Some people are saying that because the previous government had a budget to bribe courts, I should go and come up with a budget to bribe the courts,” Ruto said.
“Do you want your money to be used to bribe the courts? No budget will be made to bribe anyone in the courts. The courts are servants of Kenyans.”
The seemingly irate President Ruto reiterated his past utterances that a section of people were collaborating with judges to sabotage Kenya Kwanza projects such as the Housing Programme.
He reassured residents that he would do away with graft in the corridors of justice, adding that no one would be allowed to derail the agenda meant for Kenyans.
“We respect the independence of the Judiciary and other institutions, but that independence does not extend to sabotage the public interests,” he said.
“Any institution that undermines the delivery of Constitutional rights; social and economic to the people of Kenya is undermining the constitution and we are going to make sure all of us respect the sovereignty of the people of Kenya.”
He added: “We must deal. Firmly, decisively with corruption in the Judiciary and we are going to root out corruption in the judiciary…it is still subject to the people of Kenya.”
According to the president, the projects by his regime are aimed at benefiting the ordinary Kenyans and the orders by the courts are unconstitution since they serve to disadvantage the will of the people.
He therefore said he would not relent in his push to create jobs and fulfill his campaign manifesto.
“The biggest problem in Kenya is unemployment. Please, I want to tell you kuweni na utu. You have jobs, and your children have jobs. The children of the hustler and mama mbogas have no jobs,” Ruto said.
“I am their lawyer and I cannot bribe the courts; instead of giving brines to courts, I will end corruption in courts.”
