Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho confirms two starters vs Everton

Jose Mourinho has indicated Phil Jones and Eric Bailly will return to the Manchester United side after they were suspended for the 3-0 Champions League win over Basel.

Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling deputised for Bailly and Jones, who have started all four of United's Premier League games this season, as an all-new back four kept a clean sheet against the Swiss champions on Tuesday night.

Mourinho also rested Antonio Valencia and dropped Matteo Darmian for Basel's visit, yet all but confirmed Bailly and Jones' weekend returns and hinted at a 'surprise' selection.

"They [Smalling and Lindelof] train really hard," he said after United beat Basel. "They train together always in the same team because I knew they had to play this match together.

"If you want to anticipate the next weekend I probably play Bailly and Jones because today they didn't play, because they are fresh, because it makes sense for them to play again, but then two days after we have a League Cup match, so Victor and Smalling again.

Victor Lindelof is yet to start in the Premier League for Manchester United

Victor Lindelof insists he feels ‘confident’ after an assured debut in Manchester United‘s 3-0 defeat of Basel in the Champions League.

The 23-year-old defender joined United with a big reputation from Benfica in June but struggled for the Red Devils in pre-season and faced early criticism for his below-par performances.

However, Lindelof claimed a clean sheet alongside Chris Smalling in the Red Devils’ opening clash in Europe and is ignoring negative talk off the back of his £31million transfer.

“Vikosi vipo kwa ajili ya mambo haya, vikosi vipo kwa ajili ya majeruhi, vipo kwa ajili ya kufungiwa, kwa hiyo hatulii sana kutokana na majeruhi. Kwa hiyo kama Paul hatacheza Jumapili, tuna (Ander) Herrera, tuna (Michael) Carrick, tuna Fel-laini na pia tuna Nemanja.”

We used to joke that he was Jose’s golden boy, and they were always chatting about the game, an insider told the Daily Mail.
But the dynamic has changed since the end of last season. It’s not the same.
