Date set for title parade

United to hold open-top bus parade on 30th May

United are keen for their loyal supporters to join in the celebrations

Manchester United have revealed that they will hold a victory parade on 30th May to celebrate their Premier League title win.


The Red Devils went to North West rivals Blackburn on Saturday knowing that a point would be enough to wrap up a record-breaking 19th top flight crown.

That is precisely what they took from a visit to Ewood Park, with Wayne Rooney

converting from the spot to secure a 1-1 draw.

United are keen for their supporters to get involved in the celebrations to mark an historic campaign and will hold an open-top bus parade through the streets of Manchester.

As the event will take place two days after the UEFA Champions League,

there is also a chance that United will have European silverware on show - as they are due to meet Barcelona

at Wembley on 28th May.

Illustrious history

Chief executive David Gill has revealed that the club has been inundated with pleas from fans for a parade and he feels that it is a perfect way to honour this season's achievements.

"Breaking the record of league title wins is a big day in the club's illustrious history," he said.

"We have received many letters and e-mails from fans encouraging us to hold a public celebration of that achievement and we believe this is a fitting way to mark it."

The local council are also happy for a parade to be held, with Sir Richard Leese, leader of Manchester City Council, saying: "Manchester United winning their 19th top flight title is a remarkable and historic achievement.

"We're sure fans will come out in their droves to celebrate and acclaim their heroes and that 30th May will be a memorable day for the whole city."

Skysports.com picks out five key results as Manchester United win a 19th league title.



Not that many thought it was possible in mid-season but Manchester United once again stand kings of England after a record 19th league title.
As usual, there were a number of significant moments. But here, we pick out the five most important.
Man Utd 3 Liverpool 2 (September 19)

Having already thrown away winning positions at Fulham and Everton, it appeared United were going to do it again when Steven Gerrard's double pegged back a two-goal lead at Old Trafford. But Dimitar Berbatov was not to be denied, heading a late winner to completing a first United hat-trick against Liverpool since 1946.
Aston Villa 2 Man Utd 2 (November 13)

United were still far from impressive and were truly awful at Villa Park as they fell two goals behind with barely any resistance. But Federico Macheda and Nemanja Vidic completed an unlikely comeback with goals in the final nine minutes. It still looked like a chance missed, until Chelsea were hammered by Sunderland at Stamford Bridge the following day and the title race was transformed.
Blackpool 2 Man Utd 3 (January 25)

Another of those famous comebacks as United roared into life at Bloomfield Road. Had Blackpool, already two goals ahead, got a penalty when Luke Varney went down under Rafael's challenge, there would have been no way back. But, not for the last time, Javier Hernandez made all the difference, coming on as substitute to inspire an amazing response, splitting two Berbatov efforts as United scored three times in 16 awesome minutes.
West Ham 2 Man Utd 4 (April 2)

Yet another day when it all seemed to be going wrong for Sir Alex Ferguson and his team. Two goals down at half-time, their title challenge looking far shakier than it had been for some time. Once again, Hernandez's introduction made the difference, although it was Wayne Rooney's hat-trick and ill-advised celebration, that made the headlines.
Man Utd 2 Chelsea 1 (May 8)

A 15-point lead had been trimmed to three and hopes were high at Chelsea that they could get the win to make them favourites again. Hernandez wrecked that idea with a 36-second opener, the start of a first-half onslaught that also brought another Vidic goal. Frank Lampard pulled one back but the celebrations at the end were befitting of a team who knew the job was done.
