Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed he substituted Juan Mata at half-time against Everton for 'tactical reasons'.
Mata was replaced with youngster Jesse Lingard after the first half at Goodison Park during which the Spanish midfielder was given a tough time by Everton full-back Brendan Galloway.
It was Lingard's first appearance for the first team since suffering a knee injury in Van Gaal's first competitive game in charge against Swansea in August 2014.

Van Gaal said: "That was tactical and I was very happy, I have congratulated him (Lingard) with a good performance in the second half.
"He didn't lose any balls, one pass to Wayne Rooney maybe, but that is the only pass I can remember, and he did his defensive work very well so I am very pleased with his performance."

Ander Herrera's goal at Goodison Park was his eighth in the Premier League from just 10 efforts on target.
The Spaniard arrived at Old Trafford from Athletic Bilbao last summer in a deal worth nearly £30m.
And since joining United he's only had 10 shots on target in the league - and scored with eight of them.
He scored United's second at Goodison Park after ghosting into the Everton box to head Marcos Rojo's cross past Tim Howard. It was his third goal of the season after finding the net against Brugge and Liverpool.
The 3-0 win over Everton means United have now taken 19 points from the first nine Premier League games. It's their best start to a season since 2013 when the last won the title.
