[h=1]Injury update on Schweinsteiger, Carrick and Rooney[/h] Bastian Schweinsteiger could be a doubt for Manchester United's next match at Everton after suffering a thigh injury during the warm-up for Germany's 1-0 defeat to Republic of Ireland.
Ahead of the shock result at the Aviva Stadium, the official Twitter account for the German Football Association confirmed the disappointing news for the Reds midfielder by posting: "@BSchweinsteiger picked up an injury during the pre-match warm-up and will miss the game."
Germany's loss to the Republic of Ireland means the world champions still require a point from their final Euro 2016 qualifying match against Georgia to qualify for next summer's tournament.
It is unclear whether Schweinsteiger will be fit enough to play in Leipzig on Sunday and manager Joachim Low says the seriousness of the injury will soon become clear. "For Schweinsteiger I will need to see," he told reporters. "The medical staff said two or three days' rest."
Meanwhile, England manager Roy Hodgson is confident Michael Carrick will be fit for tonight's Euro 2016 qualifier with Estonia at Wembley, despite the United midfielder missing Thursday's training session.
"Michael trained fully in quite an intense training session on Wednesday but he had a re-occurrence of a feeling that he sometimes gets in his groin – a slight tightening of the groin – and we didn't want to take any chances in what was a fairly light session before the match," said Hodgson on Thursday. "So we decided to rest him for the session on the basis that it will help him be fit for tomorrow night."
Wayne Rooney has not trained with England all week and will not face Estonia, although the FA has confirmed the Reds skipper will be presented with a golden boot from Sir Bobby Charlton before kick-off after becoming the Three Lions' all-time leading scorer last month.
However, Hodgson has suggested Rooney is unlikely to travel to Lithuania for England's final qualifier on Monday, so he can prepare for United's forthcoming trip to Everton. "We have been waiting for his ankle injury to settle down," the England manager explained.
"It is settling down very well and we certainly don't want to risk him because he has lots of important Manchester United games ahead. I would be devastated if we pushed him out there and something happened to increase the problem he has with his ankle. So we decided it is better that he doesn't play in this game.
"During the time he was receiving treatment for the ankle injury he has been very keen to stay with us, and very keen to be part of our post-match meetings we had in regards to the Switzerland game. I am sure he is looking forward to Sir Bobby presenting him with his golden boot."
