🚨 Thierry Henry on Alexander Isak finally looking like himself at Liverpool:

🗣️ Henry: “I was laughing watching Isak against Ipswich because suddenly everybody is saying, ‘Ah, this is the Isak Liverpool paid £125 million for.’

Maybe Isak is standing there thinking, ‘Yes. And this is the Liverpool I thought were paying £125 million for me.’

A striker can make runs. He can show you where he wants the ball. But eventually somebody has to find him.

Look at his first goal. Gakpo gets the ball, Isak is already moving. The pass comes, one touch, finish. Very simple.

Then a few minutes later, again. Give him the opportunity and he scores.

That’s the Isak I watched before Liverpool. Sometimes he can disappear for ten minutes and then you give him one proper situation and the game changes.

People were discussing the price, whether he was adapting, whether he looked sharp enough. But I always ask one thing: how many times did you actually put him somewhere he could hurt the goalkeeper?

Today Liverpool did.

Two goals in nine minutes.

Isak didn’t suddenly remember how to score today. Liverpool remembered why they paid £125 million for him.”

With two games less than three days apart, Andoni Iraola sought to make three changes to inject fresh legs, but he would hook Kostas Tsimikas at halftime and later Ryan Gravenberch.

The combination of Liverpool’s No. 38 and Dominik Szoboszlai resulted in a lack of midfield control, as supporters have seen too many times, with a successful duel count of merely 5/17.

They were overrun and left too much space for Fulham when they won possession back, conceding control and impetus when they should have been the duo dictating play.

It was, therefore, hard to overlook as supporters took to social media after the stale draw, the third of the season from the opening four games.

“100% down to the midfield. I suppose you can understand giving Grav a go, but he should have stayed on the bench.” – Michael Hugh in TIA comments.

“We won the league with Szoboszlai, Macca, Gravenberch midfield.

“They should all be in their prime now.” – PM G in TIA comments.
It’s like the midfield had no brains, and Grav out of form, it makes it worse, Macca at the start would have been better, because he is not afraid to put a foot in, and take shots from outside the box, things Grav refused to do.” – Coverdale mcnish in TIA comments.

The blame is not falling at the door of Iraola, as he was not helped by Liverpool’s transfer policy this summer and the willingness to neglect a position that has needed depth and competitionThere does need to be a reassessment of what the midfield combination looks like, however, and does Trey Nyoni deserve an opportunity – perhaps Tuesday’s League Cup match will be his audition?

Mac Allister spoke out about his disappointment at the lack of a new contract, and yet he is outperforming the others after their recent new and improved terms, gets you thinking, doesn’t it?
