Liverpool bid £26m for Lazio ace Keita Balde Diao before signing Mohamed Salah - reports

LIVERPOOL bid £26m for Lazio star Keita Balde Diao before signing Mohamed Salah from Roma, reports claim.

Liverpool bid for Lazio star Keita Balde Diao

The Reds snapped up Salah in a deal worth £39m earlier this week.

The Egypt winger has signed a five-year deal with the Premier League heavyweights.

He turned down a move to Liverpool in 2014 in favour of joining Chelsea.

However, he failed to settle in the Premier League before joining Serie A side Roma last summer in a £15m deal.

Despite Liverpool splashing the cash on Salah, it appears Keita was also under serious consideration.

It’s suggested Jurgen Klopp lodged a formal offer.

But, according to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, the proposal didn’t go any further and Klopp opted to sign Salah.

It’s suggested Keita was keen on a move to Anfield and is disappointed a deal failed to materialise.

Lazio now fear he could join Juventus on a free transfer in 2018.

The Senegal international has spent the past six years on the Serie A giants’ books after linking up with them from Barcelona.

He enjoyed an impressive 2016/17 campaign as they secured a sixth-place finish, bagging 16 goals and providing three assists.

What's next for Liverpool in the transfer market?

The Reds finally announced the club record signing of Mohamed Salah on Thursday evening.

The Egyptian winger arrived at Anfield to much fanfare - but things move quickly in football, and the Reds will need to get cracking on more signings if they are to steal a march on their rivals.

Naby Keita will be a priority. The Guinea midfielder is a top target for Jurgen Klopp as he looks to beef up his midfield. RB Leipzig don’t want to sell, but Liverpool are willing to go up to £50m to persuade the German club to part with one of their prized assets.

We might start seeing some movement in that one soon.

Another midfielder on Klopp’s radar is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has reportedly informed Arsenal of his desire to leave the club. Liverpool will want to be heavily involved in the bidding for the England man - but the Reds won’t be drawn into spending too much of their budget on Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Klopp hasn’t suddenly gone off Virgil Van Dijk, and it will be interesting to see if there is another twist in that one. Reports coming from Italy suggested Chelsea had made a bid for the Dutchman - if true, it will be interesting to see if that brings the Reds back to the table.

Liverpool chief jokes club won’t sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for bizarre reason

"LIVERPOOL would’t sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang because it would cost too much to print his name on the back on their shirts."

The Kop’s chief executive Peter Moore has joked with fans on Twitter that a potential deal would not be financially viable because of the Gabon ace’s long name.

Liverpool have been linked with the Borussia Dortmund striker for some time.

But he won’t come cheap and finances were clearly at the front of Moore’s mind in his tongue-in-cheek Twitter exchange.

A Liverpool fan tweeted Moore: "If Aubameyang is available for £63million as reported (and would come) please get him!

"You could recoup most of the money in shirts".

Moore replied: "All the profits would disappear with the cost of lettering the shirts…"

Aubameyang has hinted he’s looking to leave this summer.

He said: “If I want to go to the next level, I need to leave in the summer.”

And Dortmund’s chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke admitted the club would be prepared to do a deal for £63m.

He explained: “We will listen to it when a club is willing to show its appreciation for Aubameyang in a financial way as well.

“If an official bid were to reach more than £63m, it would have to be reported as a necessary to proceed.

“This has not happened so far.”
