Kenya declares war on Al Shabaab!

Al Shabaab rebels head to Somalia to meet the advancing Kenya troops say Somalia residents

MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Somalia's al Shabaab rebels began heading to the town of Afmadow on Monday to confront advancing Kenyan and Somali government troops who launched an offensive against them at the weekend, residents of the port city of Kismayu said.

"All al Shabaab's fighters and their armed vehicles in Kismayu have taken the road towards Afmadow," Ismail Aden, a resident of rebel-controlled Kismayu told Reuters.

"Al Shabaab have left only 10 fighters here ... people are afraid here, they do not know what will happen," he said. Kismayu is about 120 kms south of Afmadow.

A Somali military commander told Reuters his soldiers were also advancing on the town of Afmadow, which is near a now deserted al Shabaab base hit by air strikes on Sunday. Another Kismayu resident said the al Qaeda-linked militants had announced in mosques a jihad, or holy war, against Kenyan and Somali troops and urged residents to defend Kismayu.

"At noon dozens of al Shabaab convoys took the road of Afmadow," Abdullahi Jamac told Reuters. "Al Shabaab ... urged residents to participate in the jihad and defend Kismayu. Al Shabaab sheikhs said jihad is obligatory," he added.

Kenya haina lolote.

Kenya wameshanunuliwa na US. Na sasa wamekuwa ni askari wa kulipwa. Wamerekani bado wana kisasi cha kuuliwa askari zao na wasomali halafu wakaburuzwa mitaani (astahili yao kiliwapeleka nini?), sasa wanakuja na mbinu mpya ya kutaka Waafrika wenyewe kwa wenyewe wauane, kwanza Uganda, halafu wanawalipa Tanzania kuwafundisha askari wa Kisomali (sio Shabaab), sasa Kenya. "You're either with us or you're against us"
tafadhali toa evidence eti Kenya imenunuliwa na merekani? alshabab imehatarisha maisha sio tu ya wakenya bali wana afrika mashariki wote, unakumbuka walishambuluia Uganda na hatuwezi assume eti Tanzania iko safe ,kumbuka shambulio la mwaka wa '98 DAR na NRB. the whole tourism industry is at stake and Kenyans were becoming more concerned about the way the govt was addressing the issue of protecting our territorial boundaries.....they had to act, the days of diplomacy are over and at least the Army men must now work ,we pay them too much!!

Hapo sijakuelewa nani anamdai nani?.
Allah s.w atawasaidia.AAMIN.

Al Shabab and Somalis must be wiped off!!
Go Kenya
Go Kibaki

Go to hell Al Shabab!

I don't agree with your thinking.....the only way the economy of Tanzania is by doing business with kenya, and this can only happen if Kenya is peaceful...alshabab has been threatening this peace and we are creating a buffer zone inside Somalia to protect the economy.Do not expect to prosper from our misfortunes ......,this is an East African problem not Kenyan only ask Uganda they know better,do not assume that u r safe.

You are right about that. It never cease to amaze me when you have some of us who vehemently support Al Shabab bandits just because they are muslims!! There are evil muslims just like there are evil christians, Hindus, Bahais, Buddhists etc
We need to look at things in a bigger picture and not influenced by our religious faiths. Truthfully speaking, If Kenya goes down, so does Tanganyika, Zanzibar and the rest of east and central Africa

Wanataka pesa za wamarekani.Si wameona Pakistani wanavyozitafuna kwa kigezo cha kupigana na Alkaeda both in Afghanistan and inside Pakistan?

Alshabab's situation is the same,Kenya wanataka kupigana nao Somalia na ndani ye Kenya yenyewe.

the Kenyan situation is totally different from Pakistan and it will be idiotic for anyone to think that we are fighting alshabaab for money, your post is very disappointing when peoples lives have been lost because of this terror group. When Museveni threatened to pursue alshabaab inside Somalia after they had attacked his country, was he eying American money.......the defense and internal security ministers gave concrete reasons why we decided to put down diplomacy and act,to protect our economy and for the security of our people.......continue to wish us evil....or you r just ****** who cannot think!!!!! i pity you.......it might be your friend or relative or even you who will be affected when they will attack Tanzania.....Alshabaab is not only a Kenyan problem but an East African,if you are in business..you will understand how the problem of piracy along our coastlines is costing the whole region alot.Istead of wishing for a negative outcome you should be cushioning yourselves against this group or even send your troops along the coastline to finish them once and for all......next time think before you write anything....

Kenya helicopter crashes; push into Somalia begins

A Kenyan military helicopter hovers over Liboi township, on Kenya's border with Somalia on October 15, 2011 during a search for two Spanish aid workers kidnapped from Kenya's Dadaab refugee camp thought to be hidden in the area and now believed to be in lawless Somalia.

MOGADISHU, Somalia
- Kenyan military forces moved into southern Somalia on Sunday, an official and residents said, a day after top Kenyan defense officials said the country has the right to defend itself after a rash of militant kidnappings inside Kenya.

Late Sunday evening, a military helicopter crashed and caught fire inside Kenya from an apparent mechanical malfunction, a diplomat and a resident said. No civilian casualties were reported but the status of the pilots on board was not immediately known.

Residents in southern Somalia said that columns of Kenyan troops had moved in and that military aircraft were flying overhead. Resident Ali Nur Hussein said Kenyan troops arrived in tanks and military trucks, and that troops were coordinating with Somali government soldiers.

Kenya's government spokesman, Alfred Mutua, said Kenyan troops "are pursuing
al-Shabab
across the border." He did not give any other details.

"Our forces are ready to combat al-Shabab and they are doing so effectively. They are ready at the borders, so sending troops is not needed," Osman said.

The helicopter crashed in Liboi, a town about 10 miles (20 kilometers) from the Kenya-Somalia border. The Liboi resident asked not to be identified for fear of reprisals. The diplomat's employer does not allow him to be identified.
Mutua and Kenya's military spokesmen did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Kenyan troops have frequently crossed the border into Somalia, but Sunday's push appears to be a bigger and more concerted effort. Minister of Internal Security George Saitoti told a news conference on Saturday that Kenyan forces would pursue al-Shabab into Somalia.

In response, al-Shabab, Somalia's most dangerous militant group, tried to raise the alarm in areas it controls. Residents in the town of Qoqani who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals said militants were going into homes and forcibly recruiting new fighters.

"Are you ready to live under Christians?" one al-Shabab official shouted on a militant radio station. "Get out of your homes and defend your dignity and religion. Today is the day to defend against the enemy."

A Somali government spokesman, Abdirahman Omar Osman, said his government welcomes logistical support from "our Kenyan brothers," but said Somalia did not need Kenyan troops.

"For the first time our country is threatened with the most serious level of terrorism," he said.

The public declaration to attack al-Shabab came two days after armed militants kidnapped two Spanish aid workers with the group Doctors Without Borders from the Dadaab refugee camp, a sprawling expanse of temporary homes where almost 500,000 Somalis live. The population of Dadaab, the world's largest refugee camp, has swelled by tens of thousands in recent months because of Somalia's famine.

On Oct. 1, Somali gunmen took a wheelchair-bound Frenchwoman from her home near the resort town of Lamu. Somalis also abducted a British woman from a Kenyan coastal resort in September. Her husband was killed in the attack.

Kenya's push north into Somalia will open another front that Somali militants must contend with. African Union forces from Uganda and Burundi have expanded their control of Mogadishu in recent months and have almost completely forced al-Shabab out of the capital.
